I stayed here for a few nights with a friend, off-season, early August. The hotel is very well located, and the staff is very kind and hepful. The room and breakfast were simple, but nonetheless comfortable and satisfying. The room had heating and was clean.

I would probably stay there again, but during the warmer season, to be able to use the pool! :)

This review has to be taken in context of the rustic lifestyle that San Pedro chooses to portray. A hotel charging these prices for such basic rooms would score poorly in cites or other areas. However here in San Pedro, when compared to other lodgings available, La Cochera comes out well. Its main attraction is the location, just a couple of minutes walk from the centre with bustling restaurants, tour offices and shops. Many other lodgings are quite some distance out. La Cochera has a pool and sitting area which is very nice and is where the wifi works. The rooms are a reasonable size and kept spotlessly clean. However they are very basically furnished - no tv, just beds, a couple of small side cabinets plus a rail to hang clothes, a fan and a small showeroom. In this hot climate and high altitude (going much higher on the tours) you are advised to drink plenty of water but the rooms have no fridge nor glasses/plastic cups which seems unnecessarily basic. Breakfast is a fairly limited buffet with ham, cheese etc and the ability to make toast, instant coffee but no orange juice and fruit only on one of our mornings. The boardwalk made of railway ties over gravel to get to the rooms is very uneven and is quite hard to walk safely on especially in the dark. The staff though are very helpful and always did their best to make us welcome including arranging a take away breakfast for early morning tours. Some simple additions could make this a great place.

We stayed here for 3 nights, and we enjoyed our stay. We had just one room plus a bathroom, but the room was big enough for a double bed and 2 twin beds they hauled in. There was a very small outdoor private space, and a pretty large bathroom. The common area around the pool was our favorite -- wifi worked best there, and the weather in December was warm deep into the night. The staff was very helpful -- not everyone spoke English, but they worked hard to understand us, and they always got us what we needed. The included breakfast was simple, but more than enough food.

This hotel has much to commend it. Set in a quiet street two minutes from the main roads it has a great location. It has a lovely pool area and club house and the breakfasts are nice with fresh fruit juice, fresh fruit, cake, cereal, yogurt, meat, cheese and bread. The Accommodation is in rooms around a graveled area. There are areas where it could easily be improved to make it a great place. There is no central heating which meant the room was unbearably hot at night. With the window open it was noisy when other residents came back at night or left for early morning tours. Our bed was ok but the third bed was very old with a dippy mattress and not comfortable. They also need to sort the curtains - the bedroom one is too light and the pole not secure so it fell down with the wind or if you tried to close or open the curtains. In the bathroom the curtain doesn't cover the window and as there is a big mirror opposite there is no way to obsure yourself should anyone be around the back. The club house offers a service until 11pm but on a couple of occasions we sat there no one came to serve us. In the end we bought our own drink! On the whole we think we did well as most places here seem to be pricey and not value for money compared to other holiday destinations.

This hotel appears to be rather new (not in booking.com yet) and has a nice ambience. It has many rooms distributed around a central area so they are quite independent. Furniture, although rather scarce seems very new. Good bed and lining. It lacks extra pillows or cushions and around the bed carpets. Heating is OK (a gas heater that has external exhaust so it can be left on for the nights which are quite cold). Unfortunately on our stay, they were externally shut off by night watch staff early morning. I complained and they said it will be fixed. The shower: it was really lousy. They have very low pressure and they don't use backup pressure pumps so they it follows what is available in town. I hope they fix that problem since showering there is not a very nice experience... you have to hold the shower on one hand over you, otherwise no water falls on you. And don't expect anything fancy on your room, like a TV or video/music system. All you will find are a table and couple chairs and night tables with individual lights. Besides those issues, it is a nice place to stay and buffet breakfast is very good in a big wooden room by the pool. I would never pay USD 180 for a place like this elsewhere... but in this extremely expensive town of San Pedro, it is worth the money unless you are ready for much more limited hostels...

Room tip: all rooms appear to be similar... closer to the pool are 9 to 13 and 1 to 4, the other rooms are probably quieter.
