Dated accomodations, nice service

3.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 08 Oct 2014
The hotel is styled like apartments with a kitchen, sitting area, bedroom, balcony and bathroom. The kitchen stove is only usable if you will be staying for 30 days or longer and needs to be turned on at reception. The mattresses seem quite old and were not especially comfortable. Staff was very accomodating and helpful. The breakfast was not great, with limited selections especially of the hot food items. The service area is reminiscent of a college cafeteria in the 1970's, but seemed clean. The breakfast staff was quite wonderful at providing a quick turn around for the very busy breakfast meal in both food as well as clearing the dishes and cleaning the table. Room service was good and prompt. To access the fitness room you need to be given an access card at reception. The room is small, but the equipment is nice and in far better condition than most hotel fitness areas. The pool is very very small and located on the top floor next. If using the balcony on upper floors, beware as the wind is quite strong and if you are not paying attention items will blow away.

Rooms, are divided with bedroom with a king size bed, bathroom and a two environment room (kitchenette and living room). First environment is composed by sofa, falt tv in the wall, small table with a lamp and two poltroons. A balcony between the kitchen and the living room is available equipped with 2 plastic chairs in the balcony. Overall picture is a refurbishment must have over the room, however for short period is a good money benefit. My opinion, in a 2 blocks perimeter you have better choices for staying in the same price range per night. Nice park in front of the hotel, good terrazo swimming pool, perfect to buy some stuff in the shops in the neighborhood and go there to ear or drink. Restaurant and bar is excellent, however a bit expensive. Breakfast is above average with good restaurant environment. Be careful with strange invitations both inside and in the front of the hotel...

Room tip: For smokers, try to be on the 4th floor as balcony have access to a terrace.

Swimming pool = bath tub size, as it is for a lot of simular Apartments.

Area/location:
Down town area Means latest 19:00 everything is closing Down, and suddenly it feels like a ghost village.

Nearby ( evening ) a 5 min. walk to local restaurant next to Mercure with good/solid food, but don´t expect 3 star, but still better than hotel restaurant.
So if you´re not a daytime tourist, this area is fine.
If it was a long term stay, another area is prefered.

Hotel/Service/staff/furniture, is "OK" but ordinary.

The hotel has about 8 rooms per floor. The suites are basically two rooms. A living room with kitchenette and the bedroom. There`s a mini-fridge sink and stove though the stove has a note stating that it is not included in the room rate. There is a small balcony outside each room. One odd note about the window in the bedroom. There is a single pane which slides to either cover or uncover a screened area. The other side of the window is just a metal panel. This means you get a lot of street noise. Ask for an upper floor. Other than that there was a couch, table, flatscreen TV and a couple of bar stools. Clean, simple, basic room. Not bad.

It appears they have a seperate wireless router for each floor. You would think this would make for better service but Skype would not support video and voice only would drop out every couple of minutes. Streaming video? Forget about it. My VPN would timeout before I could accomplish anything.

On the upside. There are quite a few restaurants within a decent walking distance. Go out the front door and turn right. There is a nice little market with a bakery just a hundred meters or so down the street.

Get bottled water. One evening while there we spoke with the driver of a potable water tank truck who said he made deliveries there a couple of times a week.

Breakfast is good and served in the restaurant next door to the hotel lobby.

I will likely be back in Campinas in November. If we stay in the same place i will posr an update otherwise I'll post on wherever we stay.

Room tip: Get as far up the tower as possible.
