This hotel calls itself an Ibis "Styles" but in reality it is nothing more than an Ibis "Budget" property. We have traveled in 50+ countries and stayed at several Ibis Styles properties, and never seen such a terrible one as this. For example:

(1) This is the only Ibis Styles hotel we know of (located in any developing country like Brazil where the tap water is unsafe to drink) that does not provide bottled water to their guests. You have to pay 5 Reais for a small bottle at the front desk.

(2) This is the only Ibis Styles hotel we know of that does not provide a kettle to make hot water (for tea/coffee) either in the room or downstairs in the lobby. If you want hot water you have to pay 6 Reais per cup, and you get it in a flimsy plastic cup that is not meant to be used for hot liquids.

(3) This is the only Ibis Styles hotel we know of that does not provide quilts/comforters/blankets in the room. All they had on the bed was a thin sheet. When we were in Rio it was fairly cold and rainy, and a blanket was essential at night.

(4) This was the smallest standard room of any Ibis Styles hotel we know of. The size was exactly that of a room at an Ibis Budget hotel.

(5) This is the only Ibis Styles hotel we know of that does not provide hand-towels in the bathroom. Each guest only got one bath towel, period.

(6) This is the only Ibis Styles hotel we know of that does not even provide a plastic disposable cup in the bathroom for guests to use.

(7) The breakfast they provided was beyond disgraceful. Mushy, half-rotten papaya, unripe melon, rotten bananas and a large selection of tasteless buns and rolls, along with scrambled eggs that had turned into leather, and some disgusting looking bacon. I wish I had taken my phone to the breakfast room so I could take a picture. Even our dogs back home wouldn't want to eat the garbage they provided for breakfast. We stayed at four hotels on this trip to Brazil and this breakfast cannot even begin to compare with what those other hotels offered for very similar room rates. When we asked the rude and uncaring breakfast staff members if they had fruit that was not rotten or unripe, they literally laughed in our faces.

I entered the building, said good evening to the receptionist and stated that I had a reservation for the upcoming night. The answer I received was: "documents". I repeated again what I said and the person said, this time much louder: "documents!". I explained to him that guests usually don't like feeling like they are being arrested by local police, but he didn't get the point, he simply wasn't interested in listening, he was trained to enter guests' names into the computer.
Major problems at the hotel, apart from hopelessly rude staff: The breakfast is horrible, worst coffee ever (they very likely want you to buy the overpriced coffee at the reception), the room very small (I hit my head several times against the TV set that stick out of the wall). The mini-bar was "emptied for your convenience" so that you have to buy everything downstairs. They offer, for example, the smallest bottle of water for 5 reais. There is no free bottled water in the room, and there is no tea kettle. Only one large towel per person, no small towels. AC unit air flow had to point at one of the beds, which meant that one person slept in a fridge. The safe in the room was a very unique model that only IT specialists can operate. There were no instructions how to use it. We had to leave our valuables in our locked luggage. I guess the only thing they are good at is storing your bags after you check out. Maybe they should limit themselves to storing bags instead of working in hospitality industry. There was a big sign in the restaurant area "all you need is love and more coffee", very ironic.

Stayed at this hotel and the staff was great. The location is excellent. A 4 minute walk to many bars and restaurants. A 2 walk to the metro station. The bed was very comfortable. Their is a parking garage if you need it.

It was our fist time at an Ibis Styles. It was a good experience, cause the nice crew at check-in. We asked for changing rooms because the noise from Rua São Clement, in the back-yards the new room was quite good . The breakfast was amasing and the localization excellent, near Botafogo Beach.
