There are so many aspects to the Alta Lodge that make it a one-of-a-kind place that keeps guests returning year after year. Our family has been coming annually since the '80s and we have never been disappointed thanks to Mimi and her wonderful staff. The meals are absolutely delicious! What a treat it is to come in after a full day of skiing and relax with tea or coffee and freshly baked goods. The beds are fabulous; the sheets, comforters and many pillows, luxuriously soft and comfy. The friendly cleaning staff leaves the rooms immaculate each day. The Sitzmark bar in the eaves of the hotel provides a cozy nest from which to have a drink and watch the sun set over the mountains in the evening or watch it rise as you do fireside yoga in that cozy space in the morning. Can't wait to return to the Alta Lodge! We love it!

After my second year coming, it was still a fantastic experience. The food was amazing and always satisfied my hunger after every meal. The views outside each room are fantastic. They are always prepared and have snacks after I come in from skiing. Overall a great experience.

We come here for two two-week visits each ski season and are just finishing our first 2 week stay in January. Once again, the staff was outstanding and management hosts, Mimi, Marcus and Greg, always make you feel at home. Our daughter and grandchild joined us for four days. The lodge has a superb program for kids, getting them back and forth to ski school and entertaining them afterwards, including a kid dinner. We consider this our assisted living.

Combine that with Alta’s consistently reliable superior snow, no snow boarding, and outstanding terrain and you have the reason we always come back, now with season passes (for over 65 year olds bought in August) that reduce our per day lifts to about $35/day.

This was my first time visiting Alta Lodge. I stayed for 3 nights and had an excellent experience.

The hotel itself is very old school and traditional. The layout is pretty funky, and the rooms are clean but simple/rustic. The lobby area has a nice area for apres ski with a warm fireplace, cozy seating and reading materials.

The area that will keep me coming back is not the rooms, but the food and staff.

Staff was extremely friendly, happy to be there, and helpful. It's a small place, so you get to know the staff more than you would at a larger resort.

The dining experiences are fabulous. Breakfast is included and includes an extensive buffet as well as made-to-order items. Four course dinners are also included with different options every evening. The butter and sage gnocchi was my favorite, but every night was fabulous. They knock dessert out of the park as well.

Tea and pastries are served every afternoon, which makes for a nice apres experience to look forward to while you're on the slopes during the day.

There is also a charming bar on site that serves amazing hot toddies and has a wonderful ambience.

The lodge is located right next to the Alta ski lifts, so it makes for a very convenient experience if you want to ski every day. Views from the hotel are truly spectacular.

Overall, Alta Lodge excels at creating a "lifetime guest" - I will definitely be returning.

Room Tip: Slope-side rooms have great views of the ski mountain

We like to ski. We like to eat food that is good and also healthy. We like to relax. Alta Lodge provides a great opportunity for all of these activities. As the name indicates, it is a lodge atmosphere, not a Marriott style hotel. The rooms are large enough to be comfortable and laid out in a thoughtful plan that gives plenty of room for clothing storage and hooks for ski gear. There are 2 chairs to sit and read and a small desk if you need to do some work. But typical of a lodge, the main room for relaxation is a large communal room with a fire and sofas and chairs, and 2 copies of the NY Times, a WSJ, and a local paper, in addition to a bottomless fruit bowl. The art on the walls is surprisingly good and there is lots of splendid photography. The library is remarkably stocked with art and photo books. The music is also well chosen, never grating but also not the elevator music that would drive me out into the snow. Next to the communal room is an enclosed deck room where there is a large screen TV, which was thankfully never on during our stay, and where delicious afternoon snacks & tea are served.
In addition, the staff is gracious, and one of the owners, Mimi, is frequently around and very friendly. For me, it felt a bit like staying with family. Don't miss browsing the book that has an oral history of Bill Levitt, one of (perhaps the main) founder of the lodge.
I hear it is great in summer too, but for us it was the perfect place to stay to ski Alta. The ski lockers are conveniently located for a true ski-in/ski-out vacation.

Room Tip: I really think they are all good.
