Owner description: If it's in Texas, it must be bigger and better. That is the motto that architects followed with the Capitol Building in Austin. At one time, it was the tallest capitol building in the nation. Others might be taller now, but this is still a beautiful building that shows off many of the natural resources which are so prevalent in Texas, such as limestone and the landscapes.

Good tour and even better that it is all free. Definitely should be on your don't miss list if you are visiting Austin for the first time or if you have never taken the tour.

I walked to the Capitol park to just to spend an hour before a meeting and it was much more exciting than expected. There are many war monuments located on the grounds which were interesting. There is also a large park around the building with trees so it feels like you are not in a city. It's not a place to spend a whole day but for an hour, its a great place to walk around, get out of the city and see some history.

So much history and on beautiful grounds. It is a nice walk from the downtown core. Be sure to bring water! It is very hot! The building is extraordinary and the monuments provide so much historical information. I really enjoyed it.

This is the 26th state Capitol for me and the grounds were very nice. There were more statues and sight than any other. The building was open, even Sunday morning, and the tour ran every hour. It is quite the stop.
