“Highly recommended for a Kyoto stay”
Reviewed 1 May 2017 for a stay in April 2017

This townhouse was as good as advertised and very conveniently located relative to the train station and some of the sightseeing attractions (i.e., within walking distance of the Kyoto National museum and the Kiyomizu-dera temple). We booked through Tripadvisor and the process was safe and easy. The owner (Akiko) and the staff was very responsive to our needs, first to our questions prior to and during our trip, and later to our requests during our stay. The townhouse was furnished with modern amenities (such as floor heating) and all appliances and systems were in good working order, and that made our stay comfortable. We highly recommend this place for a Kyoto stay!

“Fabulous stay in Kyoto”
Reviewed 15 April 2017 for a stay in March 2017

We've just returned from our trip to Japan and our best accommodation was at Gojo Samurai Machiya in Kyoto. Everything was as described in the house listing and it was perfect for us. Our family of four - parents and two adult daughters - loved the experience of staying in such a traditional house in a local neighbourhood. We are return travellers to Japan and this was exactly the experience we were looking for. Highlights were the bathroom and the tatami rooms with underfloor heating during a very cold snap in early spring. Thanks to Patrick and Akiko for their hospitality - arranging a taxi with enough space for our luggage on the last evening was much appreciated. Highly recommended.

“Homely, practical house”
Reviewed 4 March 2017 for a stay in March 2017

The instructions we received from the owner were spot on. This house is in a quiet location - perfect for experiencing a little bit of authentic Kyoto suburbia. It is walking and biking distance to town and if you show taxi drivers the address they can find it. The home had plenty of heating, towels and coffee and tea. The kids thought the mats were a little hard but they had never slept on them so they may take a bit of getting used to. The western beds were super comfy and the extra toilet upstairs with a bigger group a plus. The authentic artifacts added an extra touch. Would definitely stay there again.

“5 night stay in Kyoto”
Reviewed 10 November 2016 for a stay in November 2016

We found the location great.....just a 20 minute walk to either the station or Gion. The house itself was well appointed, beds were comfortable and warm and I loved the bath!
