The Kyoto Itoya Hotel is well-located, just a $8 to $20 taxi ride (depending upon traffic conditions) from the Kyoto central train and bus station or, if less encumbered by luggage, a subway ride + a short walk away.
It exhibits all the fantastic characteristics typical of good Japanese accommodation: it is superbly clean; equipped with hi-tech toilet; the staff are super friendly and polite; free dependable WiFi; complimentary bottles of water and, of course, room is not large but has all the major furnishings and amenities to make for a pleasant stay and comfortable sleep (although I am not super keen on the smallish, hardships pillows.
The TV only had a few Japanese-language channels, but it is not reasonable to expect any English-language ones given the number of Japanese-language channels typically available in Australia (ie about zero). The only negative was partly my fault. I had not booked a room including breakfast and on arrival was disappointed to find that all the breakfast spaces (in the modest sized eating area) had been booked. Not a major disaster as there are other food options reasonably close-by but a slight disappointment nevertheless.
