Lovely hitel

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 16 Nov 2018via mobile
Lovely hotel in a good location. Rooms more than adequate. Usual bathroom amenities provided including hairdryer. Complementary bottles of water daily. Drinks voucher on arrival. Close to Kyoto Station and all sites worth visiting are within walking distance (if you like to walk-I managed 65km in 3 days!!) otherwise great public transport system.
I didn’t sample the breakfast and unfortunately it wasn’t advertised so I was unable to see what they had on offer. Plenty of coffee shops in the vicinity. Starbucks on every corner.

Only slight negative is it is on a busy main road so the traffic can be noisy through the night

But who cares, the place is a delight. Fabulous staff, great breakfast ( but western), and spotless. If you want a bigger room, the twin bed ones are roomier than the queens, by a bunch. A mile from Kyoto Station but lots of buses and subway close. Reasonably priced and decent restaurants close as well.

The Kyoto Itoya Hotel is well-located, just a $8 to $20 taxi ride (depending upon traffic conditions) from the Kyoto central train and bus station or, if less encumbered by luggage, a subway ride + a short walk away.

It exhibits all the fantastic characteristics typical of good Japanese accommodation: it is superbly clean; equipped with hi-tech toilet; the staff are super friendly and polite; free dependable WiFi; complimentary bottles of water and, of course, room is not large but has all the major furnishings and amenities to make for a pleasant stay and comfortable sleep (although I am not super keen on the smallish, hardships pillows.

The TV only had a few Japanese-language channels, but it is not reasonable to expect any English-language ones given the number of Japanese-language channels typically available in Australia (ie about zero). The only negative was partly my fault. I had not booked a room including breakfast and on arrival was disappointed to find that all the breakfast spaces (in the modest sized eating area) had been booked. Not a major disaster as there are other food options reasonably close-by but a slight disappointment nevertheless.

Room tip: If you want breakfast it is probably best to book it early.

We stayed at the Itoya for 3 nights and had a lovely time! The hotel is quite small and the rooms are small (proper Japanese standard) but they were cosy and had everything you needed in them. They gave us a welcome drink voucher on arrival which was a nice touch and breakfast was decent .. we did think it was strange they only offered western breakfast but to be honest it did the job and if you did want Japanese breakfast there were a few places you could go round the area instead. The hotel is around a 15 min walk to the Gion district and 10 min walk to the nearest bus stop to do some temple and Shrine visits. It was my birthday when we were there and they were so sweet and wished me happy birthday as soon as we came downstairs, asked if they could take our picture then when we came back later that day they had made a card for me out of that picture with a little gift which I thought was lovely ! I would highly recommend this hotel if you love a boutique style property.

The hotel is clean and quite.that is because we did not have a room with a window with a view. That was not an issue .the rooms are small as most hotel rooms .the check in was easy and fast .they had all the information including maps .the welcome drinks were non alcoholic. The hotel is close to the subway and markets .if you want a better and cheaper breakfast nearly opposite in a cafe which sells katsudon (pork with rice) it is very nice.the biggest problem is the room key .everytimevyoh go out you have to leacmve the room key .if you want to hurry to go to family mart ; which is very close you have to leave the key .I asked them why and the front desk said " just to say hello?" The reception us on the second floor .I like this hotel , but there are ones just as good near them where you dont have to leave the key.would have gave it 4 stars but the key problem cost then a star
