This is a very different hotel experience from everywhere else I've stayed in China. The rooms are small bungalows in the beautiful bamboo forest on the edge of West Lake. By Chinese standards, I would consider this a very quiet and serene location, a welcome relief after the noise and crowds of Shanghai.
The closest shops are a ten minute walk along the lake edge and through the forest. Thankfully, there is no parking at the hotel, it would ruin the experience completely. Also, they have taken a fairly low key approach to the hotel grounds which helps it better blend into the surroundings. For example, there is no pathway lighting at night, so take a flashlight.
Getting to and from the hotel is easy enough, with a road running through the forest behind the hotel, far enough away you wouldn't know it's there. A taxi to Hangzhou East train station is about 50 minutes and 45 yuan.More
