We attended a performance of the opera, "War and Peace" with the famous Marinsky Theatre. The production was excellent and the acoustics beyond belief. The building is striking, vast; finding one's way to the level to actually pick up our tickets took a long time. Much walking outside in the rain. The staff are good but the building just isn't being taken care of as it should be. Worn carpets, scoffed paintwork and even tiles coming off the roof. Huge queues for the ladies' toilets (what's new about that?). Sadly a good proportion of the opera audience were probably given free tickets. I say this because when the lights went down hundreds of mobile phone screens lit the auditorium and continued to do so throughout the first two acts. In the interval many of the freebies left and the number of distracting phones screens diminished.

Would we go back? Yes, because here in HK we're starved for great live opera productions and the Gaungzhou Opera House offers many excellent classical music performances during the year. What a pity they don't advertise in HK. We found out by accident. Buying tickets is also a problem. Luckily we have a China credit card but it's tough ahead of time if you don't.

Zaha Hadid did an amazing job here! This building has her style all over it. Her curves and angles are visible in this amazing piece of architecture. Keeping the outside clean and good maintenance is important for a building like this. The it clean seems hard in the pollution, the rest.... well let’s just hope they keep it like this. This artwork deserves it.

This was interesting to see as this and the Guangdong museum stood out amongst the other buildings in the plaza to me. A pity I couldn't catch a show as I was leaving. Love to see it next time

The Guangzhou Opera House is in ZNT and is a beautiful iconic building. For all those who enjoy architecture, this building has a lot to offer. It really adds a lot of structure to the Gz skyline. Several world class Opera's are held here and the location is absolutely fantastic, within walking distance from the Metro and from the Pearl River.
