What a great place, and I mean great. Lots of floors of amazing art. We just chose one floor, the main impressionist and post impressionist floor and spent 2.5 hours there. Could have easily visited another day if we had the time.

There is a café on site which is quite nice.

The General Staff Building is facing the Winter Palace / Hermitage and is filled with 18-20th century art including Renoir, Pizarro, Picasso, Monet, Manet, Degas, Van Gogh.

Note: Tickets allow only one entry per day, and the coffee shop is before the ticket door, so once you go it, you are in.

The conversion of Carlo Rossi's General Staff building to an Hermitage extension is truly impressive with circulation spaces created in over and around the old courtyards. Use of materials is exemplary and all this before you even get to the collections. The impressionist and post impressionist rooms are beautifully lit and show the works to great effect. It is extraordinary to find oneself in a room full of Renoirs or Picassos or Cezanne's and, when we visited, to find oneself virtually alone - 10.30 on Sunday morning - A total contrast to the unending tour groups marching through the Winter Palace, though this does still have to be seen. Only disappointment was the paucity of material in the art nouveau rooms, surprising given the sheer volume of buildings from this epoch in Russia and certainly in Moscow.

Very nice small museum. It has the Impresionist collection of the Hermitage. It is not very crowded and it has a beautiful collection.

1500 and what a great time to come. Quiet, near empty galleries and an amazing collection, especially the Impressionist paintings. Staff weren't as friendly as the main Palace building but the staff in the cafe were brilliant and the food excellent. Don't miss it.
