It’s a shame that a reputable theatre allows itself to perform ballet to a tape recorder instead of the live orchestra. No prior notice, no reduction in ticket prices, yet it still happens here. Dark and empty orchestra pit and poorly balanced loudspeakers instead.

I visited Novaya Opera theatre with my parents to watch "Faust". The expirience was great! The performance was beautifully done, the orchestra was playing almost perfectly, the costumes and decorations are really impressively done, and in a whole I don't have words to express how good it was!
+There is no dress code for Novaya Opera.
+You can buy tickets online
-You still have to get your ticket at the cashier's even if you ordered it online.
+The price is ridiculously small
Recommend it to all opera lovers!

Hard to believe this is not higher up in the things to do list. For foreigners who are used to paying European or North American prices for quality opera you will be amazed. Easy to get to from multiple subway stops and only about a 15 minute walk from the Bolshoi, this opera company does a great job and the acoustics are excellent. The orchestra is stellar in its own right. The building is plain and not in itself a destination attraction. Undecorated inside, the lobbies and other parts are functional but not lovely.

Very good Moscow theatre. Beautiful building is of Art Nouveau style. Situated in wonderful Moscow park Sad Hermitage (also place to visit) in the cetre of city.
There are Different perfomance types in this theatre: opera, ballets and concerts.
We were watching classical ballet Giselle and it was amasing. We had a lot of positive emotions. Very beautiful. Reccomend everyone.

The theater's alright. We saw a ballet there. Romeo and Juliette. This just in: an opera theater shouldn't stage ballets, because they turn out terrible. The theater building itself is nice, it's quite spacious, and pleasant to be in. I think my experience was tarred and feathered by the horrid ballet. :( Otherwise it's a very nice place to go and see something.
