OUTSTANDING lodge, fishing, experience

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 03 May 2008
As my profile indicates, most of my travel revolves around fishing destinations, I have wanted to visit Tropic Star since I was a youth, and was finally able to make that dream a reality. This scenario sometimes sets you up for disappointment - you get so psyched up that the real thing can't possibly match your overblown expectations. this trip met and exceeded my lofty expectaions.

Tropic Star is a destination primarily for big game salt water fishermen, many times involving quests for a person's first, or biggest, marlin. This is hardly a guaranteed poposition, no matter if you're fishing in one of the best spots in the world or not. We did land a 400 lb. Black Marlin and a couple of Paciifc sailfish in our week, but the fishing was deemed by some as less than stellar. That is how fishing is - sometimes it's great, sometimes it stinks, and usually it fals somewhere in the middle. Still, the captains of the boats tried hard every day, the mates worked their tails off, and we did fairly well fishing. The inshore fishing, in my mind, was great. We landed numerous roosterfish, some amberjack, cubera snappers, jack crevalle, and grouper. There was a very strong tuna bite as well, with 50- 120 lb. yellowfin tuna readily available to wear you out. In retrospect, I feel we had a great week.

The lodge couldn't be in a more beautiful setting - the tropical rain forest on the Pacific coast, just north of the Columbia border. The hosts and staff would do anything to make your stay more enjoyable, the food was fabulous, ... I still find myself daydreaming about Tropic Star, and wondering when I'll be able to return. And that, in my opinion, defines a wonderful trip.

if some one is looking for paradise - it is Tropic Star. This place is not for regular traveler looking for a beach in Carribean. The property is for Fishermans who really love fishing.

The place is nested in a spectacular lagune with great sunrises (you already fishing of the boat) and sunsets from a bar. The service is amazing. Food is few hours old (fish) and spectacular. Owners and staff are exceptionally friendly and nice. Rooms are large and very-very clean. The place is on a side of Darien rainforest - the place which separate north and south part of Pan - American highway. To get to the lodge you need to take a small plane and then boat. The most important is total abcense of moskitos.

It is what paradise should be.
