Rawalpindi is not Karachi and Nihari is not a Punjabi dish but after eating Nihari from Kala Khan, one changes his opinion. Kala Khan serves the ebst Nihari of not only twin cities but perhaps one of the best in the country. Located in Kartarpura (turn left from Waris Khan on Murre Road, while moving from Liaqat Bagh towards Faizabad), it is surrounded by many eateries selling desi dishes. Kala Khan is a complex of 4-5 interconnected / opposite shops, while some seating area is also along the road. We travelled for Sehri and by 1.15 past midnight and still two hours to Sehri; Kala Khan had already sold out except two plates, which we got. The taste was excellent with tender meat. Quantity was sufficient for 2 persons. Hot naans and sweet lassi completed our sehri and we were "tummy full". Nihari is strongly recommended for food lovers however hygiene conscious people should avoid it since neither the area nor the restaurant follows the basic cleanliness standards. Though, a family area is dedicated; however, it is recommended that Nihari be taken away and consumed at home.
