Great place to look out over the sea from the ramparts. Lots of interesting fish—eels, rays, sardines, small sharks—displayed. You get the feel of a real place of work—boats being worked on, nets repaired, fish cleaned.

You can wander around the port watching the fishermen sort out both their nets and the fish they've caught. The smaller blue boats are very photogenic and there is some interesting boat building to see too.

It is worth paying 10 dirhams to go inside and take a look at the port, at the walls and the ocean. :)

It is easy to spend your time exploring the port in Essaouira. It is authentic and small enough to manage your way around, even on a busy day. There are plenty of places to enjoy fresh seafood and the atmosphere is welcoming.

Great to see this sustainable fishery, mainly day boats catching a mixture of fish from eel to sardines, gurnard and some more exotic species such as tuna, garfish and shark. All of them then being sold in the huts located 5 minutes away, the freshest fish I have ever eaten.
The fishermen were happy to chat and we ate some great oysters at an incredible price, equivalent to 50p each.
You are free to wander around taking photographs and soaking up the atmosphere, smells and all.
For me this was a highlight of my week in Morocco and I wouldn't have missed it for the world.
