In a very quiet undeveloped part of the old walled town, this is a traditional home with Moroccan character and an amazing build design - to get the best out of the climate. In hot weather the roof terraces are superb, and have a fantastic view of the city of rooftops, while the rooms below remain cool and fresh. One feels in the heart of the local community and the neighbours are friendly and helpful. Speaking French is of great help if you'd like to arrange a cooking lesson from the hostess or accompaniment to a local hammam (not the tourist beauty spas which dot the city). The kitchen, although a little dusty and retro, has everything you need to learn to make tagines and reheat soups bought in the local berber cafes. Although the house was not immaculate in its presentation we felt very much at home. We had much-needed duvets in bed, and I would advise a hot water bottle in January !
Our host provided a lot of very useful practical information about the streets around the house and where to eat, and shop, like a local. We feel this was an experience we will treasure, and hope to visit again!
