I went here after living in El Jadida for 4 months. I was skeptical since I know how good a homemade tajine is and try to avoid the high-priced restaurants. Surprisingly, this place didn't disappoint. The bread was delicious, the chicken breast and prune tajine were delicious. I would recommend going here after a day visit of the city. Or even for lunch.

There were a number of ways in which our visit here was disappointing. The first warning was our waiter's use of his open hand to wipe his nose. Next was the arrival of the standard precursor of olives and bread; the olives were sliced thinly and spread around the plate as if to disguise how few there were, while thin strips of white bread were equally grudging. I've never felt it necessary to request seconds before - usually they're unnecessary but offered anyway, not doled out like rations. More serious though was what passed for tajines. If food is offered as something, it ought to be that something. A tajine should not be the product of a pressure cooker which can be heard throughout the restaurant, and it should not be presented inside a stone cold clay tajine as if it was cooked there. The final insult was the automatically added 10% gratuity. In dozens of restaurants elsewhere in Morocco - most of them markedly superior to La Portugaise - we had never encountered this sort of presumption. The location is great, but decidedly not recommended!

Amazing food for the piece. The restaurant is Located on la Cite Portuguese in El Jadida. Stop by for a great meal after visiting the great shops and cistern. The waiter is extremely kind and the service is rather fast for traditional dishes. Enjoy a nice Tagine or a couscous.

I have been in Morocco for a month. Been to fancy restaurants in Marrakech and very expensive ones in Fez. This unassuming little place offered the best food I have had in Morocco!
The Harira soup is excellent, it tastes of lemons and coriander and feels spicy, the chicken and vegetable tagine was delicious and the orange slices with cinnamon were just right for desert.
Perfect!

We were staying in the Portuguese Cite so this restaurant was the closest to our accommodation. On the main throughfare it is very clean and simple, with red and white checker table cloths. The menu is small and basic and service is good.
We had soups for lunch and then returned for dinner in the evening. We both ordered tagines, chicken and lamb. These were good sized meals and very tasty. But who serves fried potato chips with tagine? And soggy ones at that? We wondered why tomato sauce and mustard arrived at the table until the chips were served.
Food here is well priced with a tagine costing 48 dhs. A service charge of 10% os added to the bill, which is a bit of a furphy. Just add it to the menu prices and skip the soggy chips with the tagines.
