Steamboat is as prevalent in Cameron Highlands as burgers are anywhere in the US.
However, restaurants with an organic vegetable component in steamboat are very rare in Brinchang or elsewhere in Cameron Highlands. This is possibly the only one in Brinchang.
They were upfront and honest when they advised us that only the vegetable portion of the steamboat was organic. Our set included 10 varieties of vegetables.
We all know the premium value that organic vegetables fetch. However, this restaurant's per head price is lower than that of its many competitors next to the Brinchang main road or elsewhere. If you think that's great, read on!
Most steamboats include a larger number of fish, meat and other balls. This organic restaurant provides only one of each variety per pax in its set. Instead, Organic Produce provides a larger amount of non-organic meat plus jelly fish. In addition, the set that we chose included the traditional toufu, eggs, beehoon (which we could not finish as we were well filled by the non-carbo items) etc.
Other outstanding features include the lack of MSG. At the end of the meal, the soup was not as tasty but it also meant that we didn't experience the after meal thirst. Further, the chilli sauce was home made and I suspect the oyster sauce with garlic was likewise their own produce.
The restaurant is simplistic with a home-cooked style. We chose one of the two tables at the five foot way immediately outside the main building to enjoy more of Cameron Highlands' cool environment.
Situated opposite the main entrance to Rosa Pasadena Hotel, I can say that though we are not ardent steamboat fans, we found this meal satisfying and of astonishing value.
