A quick review of my resort and visit to Malindi, Kenya.
Malindi is a small coastal city 2 hours north of Mombasa, which has the nearest international airport.
You have many options for local transportation once you’re on ground including taxi, Matatu (local busses), tuktuk (3 wheel cars), motorcycles for short distances and they even have Uber. Tuktuks and Matatus were the cheapest. It cost me about $4 usd to get a bus from Mombasa to Malindi.
I stayed at the Mwembe Resort which had a friendly, responsive staff. The grounds and units are well kept and fairly modern. Restaurant/bar onsite that also provides room service. It’s also located close to a tourist strip that has shopping, groceries, casino and access to a beach.
The US dollar goes a long way so everything was fairly cheap compared to US prices.
The people were nice; I never felt unsafe. Armed robbery is rare but just like anywhere, you don’t wanna carry valuables that can easily be taken off your person. Not to be sexist but women walking alone will get cat called and I saw some get intimidated from aggressive street sales people. But trust me, they’d rather you spend money than attack you.
All in all excellent first trip to Kenya. Can't wait to return to Kenya and Mwembe resort.More
