Owner description: This beautiful park contains one of the top three celebrated gardens in Japan. The name Kenrokuen literally translates to “garden combining six”, referring to the six attributes all gardens should have: seclusion, antiquity, spaciousness, human ingenuity, water and scenic views.

Well worth a visit. It was lovely even on a very steamy afternoon. Adjacent to the Castle and near nice art galleries.

Thank Sarah S

Beautiful Garden, located just in front of the Kanazawa Palace. We arrived a bit late, but then a very nice sunset can be seen. If you like a quiet and relax place, i recommend to visit this place in the evening.

Best to visit the garden with a guide as they are able to explain the garden features. When the garden is viewed at certain locations it is like a 3D art canvass. I will endevour to go back in winter to see the differences. Our tour of the garden was too short

Beautiful gardens, well tended and serene. Only gripe was the older trees are in a poor state. Instead of being removed to make way for new ones, the old timers are propped up, roped and bandaged. It looks like an arborial trauma ward...
In the middle of it is a traditional tea house - 300 Yen and I got my Zen back with a green Tea and little treat in exceptionally tranquil surroundings.

Our tour group spent an hour in this garden - it was too short :( The garden dates from the mid 1600s. It is clear that the architects took the long view in time. Most notably the trees were grown, pruned and supported in a way that the original planters could never hope to see the result of their efforts.

The other fascinating feature of the garden was its use of water. The upper level had a soothing pond from which water flowed to a lower level which featured a gravity powered fountain

I am sure that in our brief walk-through I missed many of the garden's sights. Please plan to spend as much time as you can in this magnificent garden.

Thank Ed C
