We were there in right before Christmas in December with our 3 young adult kids. It was spectacular. The location on the Zambezi river was perfect for pre- and sunset boat tours with Donald (we went out twice as he was so good at finding and knowing the spots for wildlife....and he made a great gin and tonic sundowner as we cruised along!). We felt so lucky compared to the folks who were on the big boats from the larger docks in town (more booze-cruises compared to our ability to say "hey, what's that?" and then get up close and personal with the white-fronted bee-eaters, babboons, crocodiles, and more.....

The staff were uniformly wonderful and the rooms beautiful. They were so warm and friendly and the food and drinks were great. They were also quite accommodating as we had to change our whitewater raft day plans when our luggage didn't arrive from our flight from South Africa...it came one day later and it all worked out fine. I cannot imagine more attentive service and caring from a team.

On the day we went looking for the white Rhinos (we found them after awhile...amazing....VERY close!), we found a herd of water buffalo just as we were leaving the camp area! I think that almost every night the hippos came out of the water just after sunset just below the bar area and tromped around the grounds. It was fantastic!

We used Toka Leya as our base for a morning trip to Victoria Falls on the Zimbabwe side...the guides made the border crossings simple and the guide on the Zimbabwe side was also great. On the way back from that trip we stopped at one more touristy and one local market.

We also did a local community tour and happened upon giraffes crossing the road on the way....clearly not the same as seeing deer on our drives n the US! Did I say we loved it? We did.....

My husband and our 23 year old daughter stayed for 3 nights at the end of November. We were on our way to Botswana for safari time, and wanted to explore the Livingstone area and Victoria Falls first. We chose this "hotel" because we like the style it conveyed - a safari-like experience, not a post-colonial hotel. We were thrilled that it is actually a safari camp, and was a truly awesome start to a 12 day series of adventures.

Everything about the place is to be commended. Our family tent was comfortable, suitable, netted, outfitted with everything. Atmospheric. The staff were effusive and generous and kept refiling things for us - cookies, treats, beverages, etc.

The food was quite deluxe, and having a pizza oven adds to the options. Each night, the staff surprised us by setting up dinner for us at yet another interesting location in the camp. Really, I can't emphasize enough how skilled the cooks are - folks who have learned to be creative and deliver really tasty, aesthetic dishes.

Our guide, Godfrey, is a super fellow, Skilled, aware of safety, knowledgeable, engaging, energetic, keen to share. Really easy energy, a pleasure.

We thoroughly enjoyed our safari experiences at Toka Leya. Being on the boat on the Zambezi was really a beautiful experience; we did it twice. And the wildlife / jeep rides - wow. The diversity we witnessed - up close - even in the first 24 hours blew our minds.

There are no predator cats in this national park, and so the abundance of vervet monkeys was impressive.

A huge thank you to GM Nic and the staff - you are an effusive, friendly, welcoming team.

We can highly recommend Toka Leya. And the Wilderness Safaris overall - an excellent outfit, well run, well presented.

Toka Leya Wilderness Safari camp and lodge is the PERFECT spot to finish off an African Safari and find Rhinos for the conclusion to the "Big Five". As our fourth camp on a recent Safari to Botswana and Zambia, Toka Leya has the amenities that "ease you back to civilization": a full gym , A/C in the excellent lodges; and a wood oven for pizza to go with your luncheons!! Then you excursion over to Zimbabwe for a waling tour of the magnificent Victoria Falls, one of the world's seven natural wonders, and you finish with fishing for African Tiger fish and bream on the Zambize River!! SUPERB!

Room Tip: You have your own separate lodge with a view of the Zambize River, and walk among elephants and other wild animals.

Dear Doug,

Thank you for the beautiful review, delighted that we were able to help you complete your Big 5 sightings with the Rhino. Being located between Livingston and Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park, makes for the perfect "transition" before being thrown back into civilisation and all the noise that comes with it :). We hope you will visit us again soon, we will have the pizza oven burning for you.

Thank you again

Stayed for 2 nights in early Nov. Luxurious tents, all mod cons. Food was plentiful and delicious, they catered well with my veggie request. The staff were wonderful, they couldn't have been more helpful. The Zambezi river cruise was something I will never forget. The game experience was good too, seeing elephants, buffalo, hippo, kudu and giraffe. Would definitely return!!

Perched on the banks of the Zambezi, Toka Leya is the perfect location to spend a well earned break. The menu is quite broad with a pizza oven to boot! Very few things can beat fresh baked pizza in the wild but then again this is Toka Leya. The setting allows you fantastic views of the Zambezi. Experienced guides and staff that pays attention to every detail make Toka Leya an easy favorite.
