It is difficult to write anything about this hotel that has not been written before. My husband and I stayed there in early October for 10 days and had possibly the best hotel experience we have ever had.
Chris and Susan are the perfect hosts, although we were sad to leave we were comforted by thought of our return, which will be the only time that we have returned to the same hotel, and area of the world twice. Thank you both for a wonderful stay, we look forward to meeting again.
I arrived at The escape for the first time not quite knowing what to expect. The location is tranquil enough to escape from the stress of city life, but close enough to Gocek and other locations for the independent traveller. The hotel is situated in rural Turkey where glimpses of the life of the locals can be seen in the simple terraced farms adjoining the property. This was never intrusive and added to the character of the escape.
Chris and Susan can not do enough to make everyone to feel at home and encourage guests to get to know each other, should they so wish.We met a fantastic group of people and had a great time.
Breakfast is just right to set you up for the day and Susan arranges Supper Evenings if required (her food was some of the best that I had in Turkey). We attended a boat trip that they had arranged and had a great time.
We were sad to be leaving and are already planning our next trip.
Our first time at The Escape and we were delighted with the whole experience. Susan and Chris go out of their way to ensure that all guest are well looked after at all times. The pool is within a few steps from your room so an early morning swim starts the day of to a refreshing start. Breakfast is help your self to all the fresh fruit, toast, fruit juice and cereals and eggs cooked to order at your request. Local porridge was particularly good and again on request.
Due to its location a car is necessary for getting around the area but Susan offered transport to local areas if she was visiting herself and was happy to take guests and arrange pick up.
The all adult environment made for a truely relaxing time around the pool and sitting with other guests in the evening for a chat gave opportunities to meet some lovely people of similar ages. The last evening was a music evening with Chris and Susan singing and guests had an opportunity to join in but not made to feel that they had too which was a relief for me but my husband enjoyed singing a couple of songs with them.
All in all it really was a brilliant place to get away and relax.
This really is a hidden gem. Initially, and having arrived in the dark, it seems very remote - but the reality is that although quietly hidden on the edge of a tiny hamlet, it is in fact just 5 minutes away by car from the harbour town of Gocek, with its restaurants shops and marina (don't miss the mega marina !).
We spent 10 days here in September and I can highly recommend the Escape as a lovely place to stay. The rooms on the ground floor all look over the terrace and pool and the lovely views. They cannot be faulted, the beds are very comfortable, you get asked what types of pillows you like before arrival, the linen is soft and fresh, lovely towels, toiletries and shower. You will have no quibble about anything. Tea and coffee tray, mini fridge, plenty of cupboards. Very very comfortable indeed.
Breakfast (and dinner) is served on the first floor terrace where you can continue to look over the mountain views. You will be offered a choice of eggs and then select yourself from the typical Turkish breakfast of fresh fruits, hams and cheeses. Self-service tea, coffee and ice cold water are available, free of charge, all day. This is unusual and an example of the extra service you receive here at the Escape.
The infinity pool is lovely, not heated, but to me all the better for that. As your room will be close to the terrace, it is so easy and convenient to nip in and out as you want. We started in the Tourquoise Room and then moved to Topaz. Although Topaz is the most private, we never felt overlooked at all during our stay in either room; this is not something to worry about at all. I can strongly recommend both these rooms.
As we were new to this particular part of Turkey, we spent quite a bit of time exploring. Fethiye is the nearest large town and we went there on several occasions including to the nearby beach. In the opposite direction is Dalyan, with it's river and Lycian tombs in sight across the river. We liked this town very much, well worth a visit and trip down the river as well as the nearby beach and a visit to the Roman site Caunos. Having said that, it was always so nice to come back in the afternoon and relax by the pool.
Chris and Susan are great hosts with nothing too much trouble and yet also unobtrusive.
You really cannot go wrong here. As and when we go back to Gocek, this is where we would stay, no question.
What we are saying may sound absurd,
But 'The Escape ' in Gocek , deserves the ' F' word,
'F ' for Fabulous place, and that's just the start,
'F' for fantastic people - top of the chart,
Chris and Sue, ( please excuses the familiarity ),
Make sure that you will forget all reality,
A beautiful setting - it's Shangri La,
It's our opinion that you'll travel far,
To find a setting that's just ideal,
And peace and quiet that's quite unreal,
And yet in a couple of miles, that's as the crow flies,
There's the 'flesh pots' of Gocek, and all that implies !,
But back to reality - not our emotions run riot,
If you are the person who wants peace and quiet,
Yet within easy reach of good food and bars,
Your choice will no doubt be the same as ours,
The Service and Setting will make your mouth gape,
So reach for your mouse, and book 'THE ESCAPE '
