We loved our visit (Actually August of 2014 - Just noticed I had never reviewed). Bergama is a small village and we stayed here two nights, as we wanted to to the Troy and Ephesus thing.

We wanted to do a Turkish Bath while in Turkey -- Glad this Hamami is in this town. It is old, in good condition, clean and very relaxing! There is both a men's and women;s bath here so it something you can do as a couple (but not together). It is especially relaxing to all body after climbing up and down Pergamum -- Which by the WAY- is MUCH more interesting than Troy.

Leave your American inhibitions aside, and just do it.

A very authentic experience, in a beautiful, 500-year-old building, right in the centre of Bergama. Definitely worth a stop.

It you are looking for a transformative experience, look no more. Treat yourself to a few hours at this historic, authentic bath. Take time to really look at the vaulted ceilings with star-shaped skylights, the sculpted marble founts. Plan on a long nap after your luxurious treatment.

After a day at the ruins, relax at this hamami (bath house) built in the 16th century. A classic Turkish experience...though, of course, it is just a version of what the Romans and Byzantines did. Very welcoming. You are given a room to change...a towel is provided to wrap around yourself. Then you join the locals by first sitting in a hot steam room. Then coming into the main area...sitting down by one of the fountains, and pouring water (hot, cold, however you like it) over yourself. Depending upon what you have paid for, then, you go (when the masseuse indicates it is your turn) and lie down on a huge marble slab in the center of the room and get a rubdown...first with an abrasive glove (that takes off your old dead skin from touring too long at the Akropolis) and then with a soap foam made of olive oil. Then back to pouring water over yourself. When done, you go back to the changing room and either fall asleep or just chill and get dressed. You pay on the way out...to a good restaurant perhaps. Anyway, DON'T miss out on this historic place...it is definitely part of the Pergamon experience. PS...I am describing the men's side of the bath house...there is a woman's side....I expect it is somewhat the same. Consider it, male or female, part of any visit to this city.
