Only had a short stay, so not much to comment on!
Check-in was smooth, & the staff even allowed us to check-out at 4.30am on the day we headed for the slow boat to Luang Prabang, so that was an unexpected & simple solution to that half-problem!

The pool is lovely, albeit we didn't have ideal weather for it.

There is construction there (that we didn't hear at all!), & we stayed in a private room right beside it.
But in all honesty it depends on how picky you want to be!

Room tip: 'Newer' grey buildings are not surrounding pool area

The room had a broken main light switch, and no working light in the bathroom. Shower was over the toilet. No furniture on the balcony. Room did not look as advertised. Deceptive photo of the property utilising angles of a garden to imply a luscious garden. Deceptive photo of the room too, we should have checked the room out before paying. They also wanted an extra 200 baht deposit for the room key card. The restaurant is very limited. The hotel is surrounded by a construction site which (according to their description finished in November 2019, we visited in March 2019). We checked out early at 6:30 am and they wouldn’t even consider opening the restaurant (usually 7am) for a tea/coffee drink even though they easily could have. Don’t even consider using their bicycles either, they looked ropey. All in all, don’t choose Ben guesthouse, you can definitely do better.

This place looks really good since every building is made of wood and bamboo. The thing is the walls are really really thin so you can hear anything from the adjacent rooms and from outside, even alarms of our neighbourg that go on randomly every ten minutes during the whole night. Also, get a a/c room since we got a “fan” room because the a/c didn’t work. The shower goes well and there is hot water. The wifi didn’t work for the 2 days we spent there sadly. Also, consumables to buy are really mire expensive than anywhere else i’ve seen.

A friendly, warm welcome from the lady at reception when we arrived. We were early for check in but she told us if we waited 30 minutes our room would be clean and ready. However, my boyfriend has a broken leg so would have found it difficult climbing up the two flights of stairs. The lady kindly showed us two more rooms with easier access, we chose the twin room in the older part of the guesthoise as it was more spacious and only had about 10 steps to get to. The lady was very, very helpful. Without hesitation, she helped me carry all our bags up to the room, and handed us an extra pillow we had requested.
The walls in the rooms were very thin so you could hear people talking next door, but it was very clean and comfy. We enjoyed a lovely, relaxing stay at Ben Guesthouse. Thank you.

(Oh and the pool is big and clean, open from 8am to 8pm. Perfect for a dip after a long day out in the sun!)

I usually travel cheap, sleeping in hostels so I don't consider myself picky. But the pictures are very deceiving. We stayed in the old part of the hotel (the wooden building on the right of the reception). The rooms are dark, with extremely thin walls made of wicker, the bathroom had a permanently open window with a broken mosquito net (showering during night time would bring a lot of bugs in the room). The area is not as central as it seems to be in the map, its rather isolated, there is nothing within 15min walk (no supermarkets and barely any cafes) and the streets are not well illuminated at night. Yes, its very cheap (500 bah), but I there are better places for the same price.
