A little bit of nostalgia

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 10 Oct 2022via mobile
eSwatini for me is my spiritual home, it’s a refuge, the only place I felt truly safe. As a young girl growing up in apartheid South Africa, our school holiday trips across the border was normality, the place where you left your fear and anger at the border at Oshoek. You moved into a space of love where everyone was equal, could love who they wanted, marry who they loved and be, without the shadow of the police and the system dwarfing your every move, your every consideration. That was the Swaziland of my childhood, a country of freedom of association, of laughter, parties, families and friends. So with every visit, I am nostalgic, cogniscent of how much the place has grown, how much development is happening, just by counting the new roofs on newly built homes, but also how many friends and family are no more, their absence felt in the vacuums created. In the same breathe there are others to celebrate. Life is for the living and living life to the fullest we must. This trip We chose to stay at Nkonyeni a golf estate off the somewhat beaten track. The last three days have been bliss, we arrived at our little “villa” (need to look up the definition of a villa) and settled into nothingness, we just celebrated doing nothing, besides walking around the golf course, staring at sunsets as beautiful as paintings, we did zip, zilch, zero. Tomorrow we commence our travels. Not sure where given that Swaziland has over 6 borders with South Africa. Sometimes drifting is good for the soul, giving over control for a little while. It hasn’t been easy for my travel companion whose OCD and a control freak to boot. ”it’s been fun but never to be repeated” is muttered. For me I absolutely love being spontaneous. It’s not some thing I have ever embraced and it is a skill I am going to master. Nkonyeni lodge for the golfers and those looking to be amongst nature without the constant intrusion of people is magnificent. It’s on the pricey side for what you get. Our villa cost us R12 000 for 3 days and it was self catering. But hell you only live once. Embrace it.

Room Tip: Swaziland is a beautiful country of hills and valleys, it’s a worthwhile explore.

It was great being hosted by Nkonyeni . It's definitely a place worth coming back to. But security should be more tight. Guest should have tags or something. Access is very easy. Can wifi be on automatically. You leave the premises wifi kicks you out.

A very tranquil place both for business and pleasure. Would be highly recommended for golfers and social trips as well. Away from town and very quiet to enable a relaxed atmosphere with breathtaking natural views

Beautiful and peaceful! I walked away feeling refreshed. Although kind and helpful, the cleaning staff was too loud as they moved between the rooms. The loud conversations went on for about two hours. This disturbed the peace quite significantly. Otherwise, the rooms were immaculately clean and I would definitely book a stay again.
