My 2nd visit here.

There are 3 options to go here, taxi (which will be very expensive since the location is still considered remote), angkot (mini bus, cheap, no fix schedule, ask the locals, need to transfer depends where you come from), private (10-12hours, approx 400-600k including fuel and driver, most convenient way)

Avoid public holidays especially school holiday and Eid Mubarak, too overcrowded.

Pondok Siola still the best option. Great host, good food, good accomodation with AC and hot water.

I would suggest you to drive your own car or with a driver, you can explore more here while driving as Lombok in general has a lot of attraction spots spread in West, Central, North, and East. Gili Petagan, Bidara, Kapal, and Kondo is worth of trip for the beach, underwater life, and mangrove.

We had an amazing 2d/1n tour with tour guide Eddy. First we were snorkeling and it was absolutely breath taking! Crystal clear water and very nice corals and fishes! We then visited the mangroves and a small sand island. Then we went to Gili Bidara where we could also go snorkeling. Finally we went to Gili Kondo where we stayed overnight and enjoyed the stunning sunrise. After another snorkelling near the beach we went back to the port. All the time Eddy and the two companions took well care of us and the food was very delicious. We can highly recommend this amazing and authentic tour with Eddy! If you also want to book a tour with him: +62 823 3916 8368. He also offers tours to Rinjani (2d/1n) and day tours arround Tetebatu. We did the second and it was absolutely amazing!

We took the boat from Pulau Lampu boat harbour and it cost relatively good ( approx $40 AUD return). It takes less than 10 minutes to ride to the island on a calm day but could be longer on a windy day. The island is not clean but the beach are fantastic. White sandy beach and you actually do not need any equipment to just enjoy looking at the colorfull fish nearby your swim area. But for people who enjoy snorkeling, it is a paradise. Remember to brings water and some fruits or snack. It's a great fun for a day out.

Why ? Because you can take public transport from anywhere in Lombok to get to the closest harbours, theres public minibuses and Bemos to get here. And then from the coast theres many different boat operators, the cheapest ones for 250.000 roundtrip for the whole boat. So save your money and get here locally and cheap. I heard the rip off tour agents in Kuta Lombok charge almost 300 US dollars to get to Kondo.
Beautiful empty island where you almost should stay overnight to get the full potential out of it. That means camping in your own tent or sleeping in your own hammock under a "brygga" Indonesian covered version of a rest place....if rainy season bring some big blue plastic tarps and rope like we did, then you can "close" the whole thing....see photo...
Good snorkelling with very very good quality soft corals, not so much big fish and strong currents.
Theres a warung that sell only snacks and instant mie with a fried egg and instant drinks, so be prepared to loose a few kilos if you stay longer like we did. We stayed for 2 weeks....total bliss. No shower but a semi ok toilet....and the old owners of the warung are an amazingly friendly and helpful couple, they will do their best to help you out.
Definetly recommended, forget about the over exploited Gilis on the other side of Lombok, only loosers go there.

If you are in lombok and dont want to hassle in famous gili trawangan, you can opt to visit other gilis like this gili kondo. I can say that visiting gili kondo is one of the highlights of my trip in lombok. The beach is small and secluded. As there is no one that live on that land, you have to pack up food and stuffs to gi there. You can rent boats to gili kondo for about 250k per boat which can fit up to 12 people. If you want to snorkel which i really recommend to do there due to shallow and clear blue water, you can rent the goggles with free life jacket for about 25k (or just bring your own googles!). November and december are within rainy season in lombok but luckily it didnt rain when we got there. We had the beach all to ourselves. There are toilets and musholla provided but you have to use seawater for ablution and also for the toilets. If you are not in rush, you can also wait for sunset there. You can stay there as long as you want. If you feel icky after having swimming in the sea, you can go wash up once you reach the mainland. There is places that provide shower area with fees of just 2k. Soaps are not provided. You can bring yours instead. Overall, i really recommend gili kondo if you want a private beach experience.
