We spend 4 days at the AMAZING Merta House in Jasan Village in Dec 2015.
It was an experience we will never ever forget. And we CAN'T WAIT to come visit again!
Our host Made De Nada is the warmest and loveliest host and he welcomed us into his family with open arms.
I have categorised this review in sections, so it is easier for potential guests to look at aspects which are important to them.
Made is the kindest soul and he was always there to help and give advice to ensure you get the most memberable and authentic experience whilst in Ubud.
The house is spacious but cozy with lovely Balinese interior details. There is a very warm and loving energy in the house. You sleep like a baby!
The pool is a spring water pool, which makes the water so clear and clean and most importantly refreshing when you need to cool off. There is nothing worse than a heated pool on a really hot day. Best pool I been to in all of Bali.
Made's staff come and cook you breakfast every morning as part of your booking. There's several choices between traditional Balinese food and western meals. Delicious every time.
Made and his family lives next door to Merta so when you ring the bell his staff can come straight away and be of assistance. Always with the biggest smile on the faces :). There is a big menu for any food you might want to get and have in the house.
Really good wi-fi connection.
The bedroom has an aircon, so you sleep really well in a very nice and cool room. The kitchen and lounge has fans, which is all that you need.
Made's lovely cousin Wayan came and picked us up in Seminyak as part of the package. Made and his staff are always available to take you into Ubud for shopping, restaurants or other day trips you might want to go on.
When we left for Uluwatu we had a fantastic driver also named Made who had so much patience in the busy traffic on New Years Day. We want to give extra thanks to him as we had to sit in traffic for a whole day. We very much appreciated your help and we hope your way back wasn't too bad.
We had been in Seminyak with all sorts of bugs coming into the house and mosquitos biting us left right and centre. But at Merta house you barely see a mosquito. And the most AMAZING thing is, they don't use insect spray for spiritual reason but rather ask the insects to stay in the jungle and IT WORKS. We sat literally in the Jungle and had meals with Made and his friends and you barely got bitten at all. There are frogs, dragonflies and lots of butterflies at Merta House garden but they leave you alone and go about their own business but never enters the house :).
Made has a lovely community in Jasan Village and he is very happy to take you around and show you the village. We became very friendly with his family and friends and spend an unforgettable New Years Eve with them and some other locals. Magical place and wonderful people!
Merta house is a blessed house with a clear spirit guarding over it. You feel very very safe and constantly protected. Its so peaceful and a perfect spot for mediation and reflection for anyone travelling on their own or with family.
We are so grateful that we got the opportunity to come and experience Merta House and Jasan Village. We thought we would go to Ubud and have a relaxing time in a beautiful house but we never realised we'd find a little piece of heaven.
Thank you a million Made and lots of love to your family and friends. We'll see you soon! xxx Sandra&Dan

Let me start off by saying how lovely and genuine Made, Wayan and the rest of the staff are. If you want to escape the common touristy path and experience real balinese village life this is the place to stay. great price, unbelievable service and a lovely clean oasis hidden away from the hustle and bustle of ubud(about 30 minute drive) and just a small walk from the jungle and rice fields. serious 5 star service. highly recommended for couples who want to relax and experience real balinese culture!
When I booked this house I fell in love with the photos. When I finally got to see it in person, it was way more beautiful! Merta House is a unique and lovely oasis tucked away from the bustling city. Jasan Village is only 20 minutes from Ubud by car. It was the perfect location for us.
The house was spotless and the staff was professional and so attentive to our needs. I became ill during the middle of my Bali trip due to something I ate in Sulawesi perhaps a week prior. Getting sick in a foreign country miles from home is a very scary experience. Made and the staff took such good care of me. They all made sure I had everything I needed and prepared healing juices for me every day. Healthcare in Bali is VERY affordable by the way. Only paid $130 for exam, blood work and medication.
I couldn't do too many tours, but the ones that Made set up for us were so amazing. I spent the rest of my stay in the house trying to heal. Every other day the staff would accommodate me at the house for facials, mani-pedis and massages. At Merta house, you have the comfort and luxury of spa services right in the beautiful garden by the pool!
There are also two restaurants affiliated with the rental for take-out. So convenient!
Don't go anywhere else for tours. Made and the staff are very knowledgeable about the island and will take you to all the best spots. The prices are great too. And do use their spa! One of my best experiences was getting a full day spa package by the gorgeous pool.
I'm really going to miss this house! Thank you Made and staff for your hospitality and all your help! :)

First off, let me say how welcoming Made and his staff were. Throughout our stay, they were very attentive to our needs and went above and beyond to help make it a memorable stay. The amazing Villa itself is situated in Jason Village, about 25 minutes outside of Ubud. If you are looking for a quiet, peaceful experience with lots of opportunities to engage in Balinese culture, this is a great starting point. The pictures truly don't show how beautiful this villa actually is. The only thing that could have made our stay better, was if the spring water fed pool had a heater. We traveled with two young children (5 and 1) who love swimming, but refused to swim at the villa because it was so cold.
