“We liked it”

We really liked the place and location within Sanur. A lot of restaurants are nearby. We have two children who loved the pool. Even in "rainy" season (it rained twice so far, in 7 days) it was warm and sunny most of the days. Villa Damai is villa number 3 of "Golden Villas".

There was no welcome with fresh fruit, as promised in the leaflet that we found in the villa, which was a pity after a long car ride. We found two beers and two lemonades in the fridge. There was someone to welcome us, but she left after handing the keys.
The maid, Ayu, we first saw two nights later due to Nyepi. So the first thing we had to do was getting provisions for two days due to the holiday. We had hoped the maid would still be there to help with that, also because we arrived before 13:00.
As a tip: there is no salt, nor pepper, or any other basic herbs and spices, so count on buying everything if you feel like cooking or having breakfast in the villa. Water is provided free. Recommended place to shop is Hardys.
There is a phone in the villa where you can order takeaway or arrange a driver with. (the driver, Luka, is nice)
The maid arrives around 9, leaves for lunch at 12:00 and comes back at around 13:00 until 16:00. She, Ayu, is friendly, and does do your laundry, does the dishes, makes the beds, and provides clean pool towels and keeps the house clean. She will not make you breakfast (on her own), but i understood that she will help you with making it when asked. (we didn't ask)
Sunday is her day off. We were happy to have her.

The pool can be a bit too warm after sunny days. It has lights for evening swimming.

I would consider coming back. I think it was unfortunate that we did not have the comfort of having the maid in the house when we arrived, and for the owner i would recommend providing some basic herbs in the house, with a note saying "replenish what you use". Most people would i think.
Considering Nyepi, i would probably also have provided some bread and fruits or so, in case you get people that had not read up on Nyepi. Luckily we were well aware as we read all about it.

The house is really nice, with nice furniture. We did enjoy our stay. Bali is Bali, and do expect creatures around the house. You cannot avoid them in Bali, but if you clean after yourself it should not be bad. There are some resident Gecko's. I hardly saw any mosquito around the villa.

We are so pleased that you enjoyed your stay in Sanur and our Villa and local facilities. You were actually fortunate that the wet season was not very great this year and quite drawn out, not intense and constant. Those of us living here would have liked to have seen more rain, but know that guests were please to not lose much play in the sun time.
We have actually chosen to leave some beer and orange juice in the fridge for the thirsty traveller. Other leasing companies can decide to leave some fruit. As owners of the villa our feedback has given the beer and juice a big tick.
It was probably unfortunate that you arrived the day before Nyepi. That is why it was explained to you that some shopping at our local Hardy's supermarket may stand you in good stead for the one day of the year that requires silence and a day at home. Nyepi is a big day in the Hindu calendar and is strongly adhered to which is something we respect and find one of the cultural charms of Bali. Currently, on Nyepi, the airport is closed and radio and TV shut down. There is talk of extending these closures to Google etc to protect this special day. It is actually our favourite day of the year!!
We have never advertised as a culinary villa, but as a lovely, tranquil place to stay and enjoy Bali. But we believe that adding salt and pepper to the Villa may help some guests but more extensive condiments would be impossible given the eclectic mix of guests from so many different countries.
We do hope you find your way back to Bali and to Villa Damai.

I will not go through commenting on the rooms, the pool and other amenities, as what you read in the description of the villa is perfectly accurate. We absolutely loved staying at Villa Damai and recommend it highly.

“Everything as promised and more”
Reviewed 24 January 2016 for a stay in December 2015

This place was brilliant. I'd go back there in a heartbeat if I could. Clean, quiet, wifi, close to beach & shops but off the main drag. Great people, easy to deal with, helpful.
