One of the best values in the Rockies for skiing/mountain biking. Excellent ski school and lots of easy runs for beginning skiers.

We stayed in the Sunlodge condo type units.

Units are roomy, but everything is from the 70s. So think shag type carpet and mustard to brown bathroom showers. A few things were broken. Floors squeek when walking around. We also had a gas leak midway through the visit. The management was kind of slow in responding but finally did.

Wss bery surprised they do not have a midweek clean or provide additional trash bags, Kleenex, paper towels, toilet paper, or dishwasher soap. So come prepared for that. Luckily we had some extras we brought with us.

The unit was functional, but not something we would do again unless it was ski season.

Angel Fire has very little to do outside if the ski resort as well, so be prepared for that.

They do have an indoor pool at the lodge which is nice, but it is kind of small for all the units. But as ski season just ended, it was not too busy for our kids.

This unit was a last minute exchange, but definitely was not a top rated resort. Good for skiing perhaps, but older so expect that.

Thank Patrick M

Thank you for your feedback. While we strive to provide everyone a great experience, sometimes our properties do not meet guest expectations. In this case, this property is an RCI affiliate, therefore has a different set of standards and services than what you may have been expecting. What I do take exception with is our team's response. Within a few minutes of my office receiving notification of a possible gas leak, we had our maintenance technician on-site. No gas leak was identified. For good measure, we contacted our local gas company and they sent a technician out within two hours.

Lastly, there are plenty of activities to enjoy year-round in Angel Fire and around The Enchanted Circle. Within the resort, in winter, we have skiing, hiking, alpine skiing, sledding, tubing, and outside the resort there are ATV and snowmobile rides; carriage rides, river rafting, winery tours; to name a few. In summer, add fishing, biking, paddle boarding, euro bungy, rock wall climbing, golf, disc golf, hiking galore, more ATV tours, tours of Taos and the surrounding communities. Our front desk team at The Lodge should have been able to keep you busy.

The resort is decent. I paid for upgraded room with balcony, got a 1 ft, no joke, balcony that is enclosed, no fresh air. View of roof. Not worth the upgrade! Rooms are very spacious and clean. Loved having all the room. The beds were awful, and I’m not picky , but they were so old, springy any movement the whole bed shook. You sit on one side and the entire bed sloped. It is a good ski resort for small kids. So crowded at spring break, the line went up the mountain. Only 1 lift open for night skiing, with all the people I thought they would open another, might not be lighted. Rooms have a small fridge and coffee maker, no microwave, but there is one in lobby and at end of halls that you can use.

Thank you for staying with us in The Lodge at Angel Fire Resort. Your comments are taken to heart. Facility improvements do take time and we are making advancements each year. We hope you will come back and try another room, with the views you want. We will be a less crowded this summer (not sure why, though, as it is nice and cool here)...you will feel like the entire mountain is yours.

We were here about 10 years ago and had a nice, inexpensive ski vacation renting a condo. I think it is safe to say that not much has changed in Angel Fire over that time. There has been no growth in the area businesses. Restaurant choices are still limited. Personnel at the ski school reception are still cold- as though they really don't want you walking through their door. Snowmaking is good and other workers on the mountain are friendly. But, if you are bringing young children- MAKE SURE you bring their birth certificates or they will not be able to go to ski school or get a kid's lift ticket. This fact needs to be reinforced in EVERY communication in EVERY reservation made in this resort or you may get to New Mexico just to find out your kids cannot ski. The excuse of it being stated on the website is no excuse at all, since many people still rely on the telephone to communicate with a human being for information. I once loved Angel Fire, but we have better options at this point. The whole village area needs a reworking and investment to attract new clientele and not just the retirees that buy a place here for the isolation and wildlife.

Thank you for your thoughtful comments. Our Ski School processing is the fastest, most efficient in the region which is why many of the larger operations in the Rockies come each year to study and borrow our systems. Because we do ask a lot of information up front, kids hit the snow a good hour earlier in our program and in a smaller more ability relevant grouping faster. We keep records on kids progress year over year and since we have many duplicated names in specific ages; even last names we do ask for ages. It may come as a surprise to our Guests, but some parents actually misrepresent the ages and abilities of their children!
I apologize for what you feel are cold receptionists. We do interview each child verbally to reaffirm any extra information for ability, allergies etc. We are trying to be efficient and eliminate as much non ski time as possible. Sometimes efficiency and quick work can seem like processing....we do work on that. Obviously repetition is critical when people are required some due diligence and personal involvement in planning their trip....we really are trying to steer our Guests to success once they are here to participate in what we all know can be a complicated vacation.
In terms of investment, please understand that we are constantly investing in the resort. There are areas we all know we would like to improve and we are constantly prioritizing and working on our Master Plan to provide great experiences.

This place is nicely setup for skiing and snowboarding. We all had lessons. The only wrinkle was that 2 of us that had signed up for the Green 2-hr lesson were 'bundled' with 5 others that were taking the first-timer all-day lesson. Instructor was really good, but I quickly realized we were not going to get much learning with this group (and in the short time we had). So, after putting a quick word, Wende came over to take the 2 of us on a separate lesson. She was wonderful, making the lesson time was great and productive. The kids also had a good time in their lessons.

Note that there are ski lockers at the base! For a couple of times we hauled our skis/poles to our condo... a short distance, but up the hill, and we ended up a bit winded (due to AF's high altitude). But once we saw the lockers for $0.75 a set/night, we preferred that option.

Glad we got that worked out properly for you! We try very hard to color our ability packages and then verbally split everyone to save time. Apologize for you getting started in the wrong class, but it seems we quickly got you on your way in the correct class! Wende is a terrific instructor, certified and very experienced.
I am very happy you had fun and learned! Thank you for the review!
