The Ajit Bhavan is run by the cousin of the Maharajha of Jodhpur. The hotel looks onto in the distance at the Maharaja's Palace and the mega star Umay Bhavan Taj Hotel. So, the Ajit Bhavan may not be a Palace but it has its own charm. The welcome from all staff, in particular, reception, was warm and friendly. The rooms are not large and perhaps a little dark for me but they had all the comforts one might expect from a good hotel. There was also a lovely verandah to relax in.Interestingly, the locks to the rooms were the old fashioned padlocks. This just added to the charm.
The restaurant offered al fresco or indoor dining and the choices for dinner and breakfast were plentiful and the food was tasty, be it Indian or European. The chef even prepared special meals for my mother in law and staff spoilt her with blankets and a hot water bottle to keep her warm. The hotel also have a collection vintage cars for one to admit and drool over.
Overall, a very comfortable stay in an old world hotel at a reasonable price. A coat of paint in the rooms would make this stay even nicer. We would happily return to the Ajit Bhavan.

This was the first palace I've ever stayed in and I was awed by its elegance and hospitality. Pretty much everything we could have asked for was taken care of. the grounds are beautiful, the restaurants serve delicious food, and the history is fascinating. there happen to be a weddding taking place the night we arrived so there was a bit of excitement to entertain us. the beds, i can honestly say are the best mattresses i ever slept on!!! the bathroom bathroom was a bit small and the room a bit dark, but we were out most of the time. otherwise, incredible!

Room tip: ask for a room with more light.

My wife and I stayed here four nights as part of a wedding party. We felt the hotel lived up to its promise. The heritage atmosphere and decorations were delightful. The room (35) in one of round 'huts' was very comfortable and well equipped. A minor defect was a non functional tap on one of the twin hand basins but one basin was enough anyway.

The buffet food in the restaurant was fine though non Indian breakfast choice was limited. We enjoyed using the swimming pool - refreshing once you got past the initial shock of cold! The staff were all extremely attentive throughout the hotel.

A couple of minor gripes: the wifi reception was almost nonexistent in our room and patchy elsewhere. And the prices listed for suggested excursions in the room booklet were out of date. My complaint about this to reception was just brushed aside with the excuse that they hadn't got round to reprinting the booklets! You wouldn't get away with this in U.K. Or USA but i guess its just part of the local colourful culture! It didn't spoil our overall experience.

We were there for our wedding anniversary and were quite disappointed by the sad looking complimentary cake we recieved because our travel agent had requested them to try and make it special for us. Our superior room was huge but a bit shady with mismatching decor flooring uneven etc. Ugly tin decoration! The bathroom was huge and it's interiors were contrasting & very different from the room. The staff want to be tipped and very unabashedly hang around until you do!
The positives...a fantastic breakfast spread and nice al fresco dining areas! The vintage cars which attracted by car enthusiast son are just parked outside and costs double your hotel room charges to ride one!
