This hike was absolutely amazing. It took several hours and it was hot, but once you are at the top the absolute silence and serenity makes it all worth it.

An easy amble up ( take a torch) but a steep descent. However, the climb is there to be done and the reward is one of the most amazing sunrises I have ever seen ( rivaling Dante's Point in Death Valley - another favourite ).

Be sure to wear good sturdy shoes, bring a headlamp, as the climb is done at night, and bring some fruit and bisquits with you. The climb was quite a challenge in the datk because of uneven rocks , but the feeling when you reached the top was one of triump, and the sunrise and the view is stunning along with the awareness of history. There are several small cafeterias along the way where you can buy drinks and snacks like chocolate and sweet bisquits. You are back at st. Catherine’s at 8, an hour before they open, and as you don’t get your breakfast till after the visit it is good to bring your own provisions. You can rent a camel to take you some of the way if you find the climb too hard.

It was part of our group study tour. We had a camel ride going up and we walked down. I loved it! We had one Cup Ramen soup. At the rest stop on top of the mountain, we bought boiled water and shared this one small soup - it was a fun experience. I suggest a camel ride. It was quite an experience.

We traveled from Sharm el sheik with local travel agency. Beautiful unforgettable trip. We traveled during the night- and view when mountains and sky appear to be touched by hand and I thought it was so easy to take a star from the sky...we started to climb about 2 am and aim was to reach the top of mountain by sunrise...it is not very hard to climb. Enough to be level 1 at fitness .Every 2 km were shelters where we could get a hot drink and get second breath. The hardest part was to climb those 700 steps...quite narrow. We did have a local guide to help us with everything. On the top is really cold- we rented blankets from the local shoppers. On the top of mountain we met people from all over the world...some of them with sunrise were singing, praying or just quietly being with their own minds. Look the pictures and you will see why it is worth to climb. Some people took camels to get them there..looked very dangerous than use your own feet. Going down is just relaxing journey, made me think oh really I have climbed so high...
