The hotel is part of a four hotel complex. Some of the other hotels in the complex provide facilities for families but the palace is for adults only and it feels very civilised from reception to the restaurants. The evenings are very civilised with perhaps an acoustic guitar player in the main bar and a pianist in reception . If you would like a little more action during your stay you can use the facilities in all the other hotels. The makadi palace can be lively in the evening

Our seventh visit to what has become our heaven on earth . In our opinion this was the best trip ever . We were sorry to learn that Mr Ahmed Abdel Maksoud had been transferred to the sister hotel Sunwing but pleased to hear about his well deserved promotion to Rooms Division Manager . It was great to have a coffee and a catch up with this kind and helpful man . This theme is echoed throughout the hotel and the high level of customer service we encountered from all staff is surely a testament to Mr Hanssen's management style.

Every member of staff is worthy of a mention but unfortunately not possible . So to name a few :Abdel mounem Hamdy - assistant front of house manager - always has a cheery smile and ensures everything runs like clockwork, Khalid - duty manager - the consummate professional who goes the extra mile, Mohammed A Salam - serving coffee in The World Restaurant and taking lunch orders at Shimmers - excellent customer service skills , very efficient and does some amazing magic tricks , Aballa - head waiter in The Casa Romana - always has a smile on his face and ensures guests are well looked after and lastly Melegy Fathy - assistant restaurant manager - remembers every detail about guests from previous visits , nothing is too much trouble .

We thought the standard of food in The World buffet restaurant had improved significantly on this visit , with a variety of dishes from around the world , served at the correct temperatures and tasting delicious . We loved the hand made chocolates and biscuits that accompanied the ice cream - not good for the waist line but tasted amazing . We appreciated the addition of a non smoking area on the terrace at dinner and wish that this could be extended to all restaurants at all times . Breakfast at The Cove was just the thing to start the day - freshly squeezed orange juice , a good selection of fresh fruit and eggs cooked to order, in a beautiful setting amongst the flowering trees and shrubs accompanied by bird song. We enjoyed lunch at Shimmers but we're disappointed that Shimmers Surprise has not been put back on the menu! As in previous reviews by other guests, we too found that the wine and beer appeared to have been watered down . It certainly was not drinkable and not of the previous quality we had experienced . However , once this was pointed out to the hotel management, the problem was resolved and the wine and beer reverted to the good quality we were used to . The new Italian restaurant - Casa Romana was excellent - the setting , ambience , food and customer service were amazing . We also loved Marisco's fish restaurant . The beauty of being a Makadi Spa guest means that you can dine in the restaurants of the adjoining hotels and we had excellent meals in The Thai Restaurant and The Botanical Gardens .

The Infinity pool was being re tiled whilst we were there - the men worked tirelessly from early morning until night time with minimal disruption . They looked to be doing a fantastic job and we just hope that the tiles stay in place . The snorkelling off the pier was just as good as ever and we are looking forward to doing this again on our next trip with our new face covering masks.

On this holiday we booked a long awaited overnight trip to Cairo via the Red Sea rep in the hotel . We chose to go by air , which meant an early start - 3am we were given a breakfast box ( contents of which could have been better - too much bread and coffee) . We were accompanied every step of the way by a knowledgeable guide on a tailor made tour for just the 2 of us . Although we did not see many Europeans in Cairo, we again felt completely safe and were welcomed by any Egyptian we encountered . We chose to pay extra (£35 each) to watch The sound and light show at The Pyramids and The Sphinx . We spent the night at The Moven Pick hotel which was nothing special but it was clean and we had a good nights sleep and were close to the Pyramids for our visit the following morning . We weren't disappointed , it was wonderful to see these huge monuments that we had learnt about so many years ago in school . It was very dusty and there were lots of hawkers attempting to sell their wares . A firm "no thank you "and a smile saw them on their way . A trip to The Egyptian museum completed the experience - we paid extra to see the Mummy collection . We were blown away by the treasures found in the tomb of Tutankhamen . Last thing on the agenda was a trip to the Coptic area of Cairo , visiting a Christian Church and Jewish Synagogue and then onto the area of old coffee shops to watch the world go by . The whole trip was so well organised , we were well looked after but considered that £840 for an overnight trip for 2 people was somewhat excessive.

We can't wait for our return visit to The Makadi Spa next year.

Another lovely stay at the Makadi Spa from the 20th March 2018 for 10 nights, as always the welcome and hospitality was first class, the team are so friendly, genuine and helpful, down to the General Manager, Gerard Hanssen and his management team, a few names to call out are, Khaled Ramadan, Duty Manager, Ahmed Abdel Maksoud, Rooms Division Manager, Abdo Ahmed, Assistant Front Office Manager, Osama, Casa Romana Head Waiter, Aballah, Asian Head Waiter, Mohammed Salam, Head Waiter in Shimmers and breakfast in The World, Tamet the Night Barman and my long term Egyptian friend, Faisal Isco who looked after me so well by the pool. In relation to the food I just want to highlight Casa Romana, was fortunate to visit on the opening night last November 2017 and twice on this holiday, a great dining experience, certainly raised the bar for the other restaurants to follow, well done Osama, great to see yo doing so well. In relation to the infinity pool its a shame it was closed but required urgent maintenance, there is another wonderful pool so please be patient with the team.

Room Tip: That's a secret

14 Times to the complex staying in the Palace and the Grand and twice in the Spa.

The Spa is amazing and the Staff are fantastic from the Captains Bar on the beach Americano bar and the Cove.

A special mention to ALEX at Hugo's Bar such a nice polite and attentive waiter always on hand to serve and make us laugh a credit to the Spa Hotel. Great guy.

We have booked again to go in June and can not wait.

We just had our second visit to the 'Spa' 5th time to this group of hotels and it seems the value of their currency has drastically affected the offering.
The food is nowhere near as good and as varied as a few years ago, it is however still good and no major problem for the price paid.
The restaurant areas are full of staff but they are all running round like headless chickens looking for the nearest table that might have finished and left some cash. They need a good Maitre 'D' to sort them out.One seriously good Manager and a few girls working as well would make all the difference (they are too male heavy in the employment department)
The biggest problem was the air conditioning. they DO NOT turn it on at any of the hotels between November and April. It was 32 degrees C when we were there and only a change of room came anywhere close to keeping us happy.
On a good note the communication before we arrived indicated that the infinity pool would not be available due to maintenance, it was being completely rebuilt. It did not spoil the holiday not having it and knowing before hand made sure there were no complaints from me.
The Manager of the hotel told me the AC did not work during the winter months so they could heat the pools, they must have lost the thermostat!! They were quite cold for me and my wife didn't even bother trying when she saw how few people ventured in for more than a minute of two.
Still, go to Egypt it is great for sun, take some small coins euro or pounds for tips.
The public areas were generally clean but the paint work etc is now getting quite 'tired' and in need of a good clean / spruce up. Enter the Maitre 'D' position again for the restaurant and or a great property manager.
Come on Red Sea Hotels, you can do better.

Room Tip: Pool view in the season as long as the AC is working
