We spent three nights at this hotel and enjoyed it overall. The rooms are small (like those you might find in a Parisian boutique hotel), but very clean and comfortable. I probably wouldn't pay again to upgrade to the "Superior" room, as the balcony is so small one can't sit out to enjoy it. The hotel does have lovely common areas on each floor along with a nice roof top pool area. The pool itself is a nice ammenity, but it appeared to me to be poorly maintained as the water was murky and I never saw the pool pump running. My only other complaint would be that the rooms themselves are not well insulated from the noise in the common areas.
While some of the other reviews question the safety of the neighbourhood, we thought this was one of the strengths of the hotel. Situated in the Getsemani neighbourhood, the location allows you to experience the local life up close (warts and all), while stll a short walk to the old town. At no time did I feel unsafe walking the area at night. I would strongly recommend eating at the nearby restaurants in Getsemani, which offer better food without the "tourist" prices you'd pay in the old town.
This hotel isn't perfect, but given it's location and price, it offers a good value for a comfortable stay in central Cartagena.More
