This is a great little studio, outside the center of the city, in a large apartment complex on the 23rd floor, with great views of the ocean. It is completely self-sufficient, and is well equipped for a family with small children. There is a double bed, and two sofa beds, one a double and one a single. They fold up and can be put out of the way in the daytime. The security in the apartment complex is very strict, which is a plus. There is also access to two swimming pools, one for children and one for adults. The proximity to the beaches [just opposite the entrance to the apartment complex] and the proximity to the Hilton hotel, with its own beach, which is shared with this apartment complex, is a definite plus. We traveled with two small children, went sightseeing in the morning, and returned to the apartment after lunch. The children would jump into the swimming pool in the afternoon [the larger one is partly in the shade in the afternoon and evening], while we relaxed Out of the sun. we would return to the center for an evening stroll command for dinner. Taxis are plentiful, and getting away from the crowded tourist filled center of town, was a definite plus for us. The Chivas stop just outside the apartment complex, if one wanted to do the touristy thing.
Peter, the owner, was very helpful and guided us on the phone to the apartment complex. He had given us directions, but as we were driving from the South, and had not been to Cartagena before, this was extremely helpful. He met us at the front, helped us park our car and helped us with our luggage up to the apartment. He gave us helpful hints about the city and what to do, as well as advice on nearby restaurants. There is both wired and wireless Internet [complementary] that works very well. There's also a telephone, for local calls if needed.
For foreigners, who are not used to renting apartments in Colombia, please ask about all the amenities that are provided with the apartment. We found that in many apartments that we rented, and Colombia over the years, many do not provide simple necessities such as soap, TP, towels etc. At this apartment, you may have to pay for towels.
The only disadvantage of staying here, is that it is outside the center. Public transportation is available, but if there are more than two people, it costs as much to take a taxi [a 10 minute ride away], which is what we did. The only other disadvantage, is that the air-conditioning works too well, and if you set the temperature at 20°C it gets to it and stays at it, and you may have to get up at night to turn it off, since the whole studio gets to that temperature. [Peter warned us about this, but compared to most of the apartments that we stayed at in Colombia, this was a real plus since it really works well].
