This place in the walled part of Cartagena is very popular with locals and should be with tourists as well. The menu is limited, and based mainly on seafood prepared Caribbean style. Each entree includes a nice bowl of fish soup and plantain chips. However, the best thing at La Mulata is the Yerba Buena which is a chilled, frothy version of bergamot mint tea. It was the best beverage we had in all of Colombia.

Prices are reasonable, but not super cheap. The decor is eclectic with photos and posters of everyone from Fidel Castro to Mick Jagger. At lunch the place has a real vibe to it that you usually don't find in typically tourist restaurants.

Great dining experience! The food, service and atmosphere were wonderful! My husband wanted to go back a second time during our five day stay in Cartagena!

Had to wait a while. Drinks were tamarind juices that had a lot of sugar. They brought free plantain chips and a white sauce and neither had any taste. This White, tasteless goop seems to be a Cartageniann specialty. We had it again today at El Santisimo. They also brought free fish soup which was ok after you add a bunch of hot sauce to it. We split a fried fish. It was a lot of food. Sweet coconut rice which was like desert, a small salad and tasty plantain patties as long as you add some hot sauce to it. Fish was fresh and nicely deep fried but nothing to write home about. However, after today's horrible experience in El Santisimo, I will give La Mulata one extra star.

There's a lot in Cartagena that is cool, so I've gotta put this restaurant in context. La Mulata is teaming with activity, photos of entertainers line the walls. Four intimate
dining spaces keep the vibe lively and loud. Tables turnover rapidly, so avoid being seated at the 2 lone tables by the kitchen/hallway and bathrooms :-(

The menu is limited (7 entrees), so food streams from the kitchen quickly. While fresh and good, the food is not made to order and will not satisfy true foodies. The coconut rice is uniquely sweet and comes as a side on all entrees. Shrimp and ribs were overdone -- an indication that they are made in batches and awaiting for leach order. The fish was tasty and we enjoyed the texture of the banana fritters. Again, these item appear to be made in advance and then played as customer orders come in.

Adventurous kids will like the coconut-lime drink and parents can relax with a cool libation of their own.

If you know what to expect, you'll leave fat and happy for about $10 USD per plate.

The food is good and good portions, the prices as well. Clean, nice, crew. I like the dishes with Sea Food!
