Went for after dinner drinks. Service was quick and friendly and the views are worth seeing. Found the drinks a little expensive but the highlight is the toilets with the view.
The Sky Bar, located at the top of the casino, offers beautiful views of both the city and the Magellan Straight. Definitely worth the stop for a couple drinks.
We stayed at the Dreams twice before & after our trip to Antarctica. The hotel is very centrally located and given the height of the building is easy to find if you get turned around. It is so easy to walk to the main square and other sites in Punta Arenas.
The front desk staff was very helpful and the guest rooms were clean & spacious. We have lovely views out our windows. We had a meal prepared by banquets and ate breakfast in the restaurant and the food was great in both spots. We also had drinks at History Coffee in the lobby of the hotel and it was also enjoyable. There are tons of restaurants and shops within a few blocks of the hotel so you can easily dine out.
We did not use the casino or the upstairs bar.
If you are staying in Punta Arenas I would recommend booking Dreams.
I've never stayed in this hotel but I have gone to the bar on their upper floor a couple of times. This is essentially a big casino hotel. My experience at the bar was not good. I was there with my husband (who is Chilean) and a couple other Chilean friends of ours from the area. I am from the U.S.. I felt the bartenders (who were male) were misogynistic towards me (I'm female). When I went to pay the bill, they sort of smirked and made demeaning comments amongst themselves that made me feel uncomfortable. And, after we left, my husband saw that they had overcharged me quite a bit. They probably thought that we wouldn't notice because we had had a few drinks. I have been visiting Punta Arenas every year for the last 25 years (I live here about 1-2 months a year) and this has never happened at any of the other bars or restaurants we frequent. The hotel, although newer than other places in town, just seemed sort of shady to me - sort of Walmart-ish or cheap. I would recommend staying nearer to the plaza in a nicer hotel or in a hostel a couple blocks away.
Clean rooms but ours smelled from previous smokers.. Good view over the harbour but the downfall of this property was the terrible (and over-priced) food. Better to eat elsewhere, there are plenty of nearby restaurants that offer better value. There is a shortage of good accommodation in this town so the owners can get away with providing a second rate product.
It's a casino. It is clean, not smokey, with a nice selection of games. Make sure you get a players card because you can't do anything without it. Oh, and all players must pay a cover charge to get it.
