This museum is a gem. Very comprehensive and detailed. You can find a mommy as well as a newspaper archives from well over a hundred years. When I attended it, I was fortunate to be guided by the keeper of the newspaper archives and he was so knowledgeable on Chilean History of the area, he was a scholar....thank you for that.
This museum is free to the public and, when I left, the guard gave a free booklet called Iquique en 100 Palabras. This booklet is a recompilation of short stories entered in a writing competition by people from the region of all ages. I am still taking pleasure reading the creative writing of these locals....if these are the works of non professionals, no wonder this country has the longest running newspaper (El Mercurio de Valparaiso) in South America and two Nobel prize winners: Neruda and Mistral. Good writing is in their blood.
