I was a little underwhelmed by UMMA. I've walked by the beautiful old building many, many times and finally checked it out. I guess the majesty of the historic original building had me expecting more. There are some nice pieces for sure...but I had high expectations. I understand that the modern wing was an "add on" but I found the layout sort of confusing...lots of stairs and bridges. All in all....it's definitely worth checking out,but in my opinion far from great.

There are some beautiful pieces from Tiffany. There are solo pieces from Calder, Picasso and other historical figures. One intriguing piece is from a "Book of Hours." The page is small and double sided. These books were a best seller in Medieval times for the general populous. They listed feast days and other social and culture events. Very interesting.

One of the best things about this collection is the beautiful building it is housed in on the downtown Ann Arbor campus. For a (voluntary) donation you can spend an hour, or maybe two, viewing the permanent collection comprising European and Asian art, and then there is the current exhibition.

This is a gem of a museum. There are treasures in every room, from a Turner in a drawer to a Monet on a landing to a fabulous modern art exhibition. It is well worth a vist.

This museum is located right on campus. There is a varied collection with something for everyone. Museum is not large and you can spend as much time as you want. There is no admission charge but a recommended $10.00 donation box st the entrance. Museum is worth a visit.
