If you think Italy has the most beautiful ice creams and film locations then think again. That ‘Crown’ has now passed via a game of cones to Dubrovnik Croatia. There is only one word on everyone lips ( besides the wonderful ice cream) and that is beautiful. A superlative to describe this timeless city and its lovely people and whose very existence is reliant on tourist money. George Bernard Shaw described Dubrovnik as the ‘Pearl Of the Adriatic’ and who could argue with that statement when sitting in the little picturesque harbour where they filmed much of series 2 of the multi-award winning HBO TV show Game of Thrones?. I felt like a King myself as together with my Queen enjoyed drinking a Radlers Lemon infused beer, whilst watching the World go by , as well as several kayaks and canoes in ‘the fictional’ ‘Black Water Bay’ ( There was no black water or David Attenborough Blue Planet plastic either at that). Well being British, it is essential to complain about something in this leisure playground paradise and that something is the curse of the cruise ship. The infrastructure of this delightful medieval city intended for horses and carts , managed bubonic plague well but can’t cope with the sudden influx of 3000+ visitors with their Japanese Nikon cameras flashing- as the Pearl of the Adriatic and Kings Landing Harbour merges into one and becomes Pearl Harbour all over again....More
