Let’s start first with the « not so good »:
GVA is for me definitely a 4 stars, not a 5 stars hotel.
Staff is not smiling, not friendly. Service is rather impersonal.
Housekeeping is not consistent, always missing something, one day not bringing enough towel, another day forgetting to wash/change used glasses.
Furnitures in my room (a Junior Suite in the historical wing) are dated and do really need a « refresh ».
Breakfast, although correct, lacks variety to my taste.
... and finish with the « quite good »:
The location of the hotel is perfect. It is just on the coastline, overlooking the blue sea, with a regal view on the old town, which is just at 10 to 15 minutes walking distance.
The estate is also nice, two charming palazzos framing a modern building in the middle, with a fantastic terraced garden climbing from the sea.
The outdoor pool area is at sea level, on the rocks with direct access to the big blue. It looks fantastic, although my stay was too short to have time to enjoy it. There is also a large, fine looking indoor pool located close to the fitness and spa rooms.
The hotel has 3 restaurants: Caravelle is the main one, serving also breakfast. Great terrace view, but foods are just average. The 3rd one is a beach restaurant, I have not tried it; it has also a magnificent view.
All in all, a satisfactory stay in one of the most beautiful coastal city in Europe.More
