We chose Hotel Kazbek following the many positive reviews we read on TripAdvisor so it seems only right to pen one ourselves. In summary this is a small, five star, well positioned, excellent quality, quiet, boutique hotel and you will not be disappointed if you chose this as your base for a holiday in Dubrovnik.
We made Kazbek our base for a 9 night stay in Croatia for a family of 4 adults. We booked two rooms number 15 and 16. It wasn’t cheap, but we thought we deserved the luxury.
So some details about the hotel itself. From the moment you arrive into the classically impressive courtyard you sense it’s going to be special. The hotel overlooks the Lapad area marina and most days there was a huge cruise ship or two docked outside. The pool area is fabulous. The pool itself is large and warm; perfect for cooling after lying in the warm Croatian sunshine. We found that the pool also has a spa type jacuzzi in one of the corners - look out for the start button. There are plenty of sunbeds, parasols and shaded areas. There is also a sauna in the hotel, but we didn’t try that out.
The bedrooms are a decent size, well equipped and functional. They are traditionally decorated. The air con was a godsend to escape the scorching daytime heat. Above all is that they are very clean; in fact my wife dropped something under the bed and noticed the floor was spotless. Tea/coffee was regularly topped up; we received a fresh bottle of water every day and chocolates every night was a nice touch along with the welcome tray of local biscuits.
The breakfasts are simply wonderful. A plentiful supply of croissants, breads, tea/coffee, fruit, cheeses and whatever hot delights you fancied such as eggs, ham, bacon etc. We indulged ourselves every morning and basically didn’t need any lunch!
The staff in the hotel are another of its assets. All of the staff we encountered from reception, bar, restaurant and pool staff are very helpful and accommodating. The hotel arranged hotel transfers for us from the airport - we did this via email prior to arrival. Their email responses were prompt and informative.
I honestly can’t find a bad word to say about the hotel. You should bear in mind it’s a small boutique hotel with limited number of rooms. Therefore some might find it quiet, but we liked that about the place. Also we didn’t eat an evening meal at the hotel because we found other restaurants outside which offered a greater variety and better value than Kazbek, but I’m sure the hotel food would be excellent. Finally, keep an eye out for the hotel tortoise!
