Its so nice to seat at the park and have some coffee. Enjoy people and to be surrounded by beautiful trees and flowers. People will try to sell you all their crafts but they are very nice and respectful. I enjoy to walk a and seat at the park for an an hour.

Central Plaza in Antigua is a nice big park, it has fountains with lots of place to sit and relax. There are lot of cafes, shops and restaurants around the area incase you are hungry. Typically you will see families and friends having a good time in this area.

In the center, you'll find the pretty fountain with the sirens. Wander around and read about the flowers and other plants. One plaque explains a group from California sent some flowers a long time ago to thank locals for helping start avocado production in California. Indigenous women will approach you politely to sell beautiful hand-made textiles and jewelry. Get you shoes shined for 5 quetzales (less than $1).

On the south side is the Palace of the Captains General (from which Central America was governed for more than two centuries) with an interesting museum. Opposite are the local government buildings. I used the cash machines in one of the entrances there (near Cafe Barista). It took a little more than a minute to read the chip on my debit card, but it worked fine. You can pull up a menu in English and get as much as 2,000 Q.

From the northwest corner it's a short walk to the famous arch with a volcano in the background and the beautiful baroque Iglesia de la Merced is a little beyond on the left. On the east side of the central park is the beautiful Cathedral of San Jose. The west side has a row of shops including the Cafe Condesa which is very nice.

Banks are here (I used BAC bank, it was really easy to change $50 to Quetzales, it took about 5 minutes for the whole transaction). There's a McDonalds here, there's a library, restaurants... you can feed pigeons by the fountains!
