Owner description: Restored in 2005, the Whaling Museum features top-quality exhibits and galleries, as well as daily programs and tours that bring to life the history of this magical island. The museum is home to a 46-foot sperm whale skeleton, a restored 1847 oil and candle factory, and countless Nantucket artifacts and treasures. A relaxing, fully-accessible rooftop observation deck offers stunning views of Nantucket harbor.

We had an hour or so to kill and visited the museum as it was very wet outside. $20 per person.

What made it was a very interesting talk on the history of whaling in Nantucket. It certainly exceeded our expectations.

The museum itself is ok and I’d rate it 3* but the talk gains it a star!

If on the island and interested about this most enchanting place, you must visit this museum! Also, read In the Heart of the Sea, so you have a better understanding off the whaling history of the island before you go. Great presentations, short presentations.

We visited the whaling museum and learned a lot of new information about the impact of the whaling industry and the aftermath when it declined. We purchased the all access pass which allowed us to view other historic sites around Nantucket and really gave us an Insider's feeling to a new area.

I didn't expect whaling to be so fascinating but it was. The staff is extremely knowledgeable and friendly. It's a really beautiful museum full of very interesting facts. Be sure to check out the room full of whales teeth which the whalers actually used to carve art.

This museum provides an excellent history of whaling in Nantucket, and offers talks and films throughout the day. We really enjoyed the exhibits and learned some new things. The museum has a very nice gift shop as well. Definitely worth a visit!
