We admired this fascinating bridge while we crossed the Panama Canal by accident (we didn't turn left in time for the Biomuseum). I have to say the bridge looks more elegant if you on the bridge.

The Bridge of the Americas was built in the 1950's and was the first bridge to be built over the canal and is the main way to travel from Panama City to the interior on the Pan-American Highway.

Very impressive structure. But be aware that this is a highly congested area and at certain times of the day traffic is limited to one lane in or out of the city and wait times can be very long. It is worth the view so try it out.

I traveled over this bridge seven or eight times during my trip. It gives a very good overview of the entrance to the Panama canal on the Pacific side. However, at rush hour the roads leading to it are very crowded. so, avoid then and you will be ok.

We passed under this bridge on NCL's Norwegian Star when we transited the Panama Canal when tavelling from Miami to Los Angeles. A really nice construction and the traffic was really high..
This bridge switches to 3 lanes one way and one the other in periods of rush hour traffic.
Really neat to see this on the very interesting and informative Transit of the Panama Canal.

Thank George B
