Mi Pueblito and Ancon Hill Tour in Panamá City
Reviewed 2 weeks ago

Interested place to visit. This was one of the stops offered on the hop on hop off tour bus. I visited early in the morning and was only there for an hour. If you enter the african side there is not much to do but visit small mostly empty shops for souvenirs. Which was disappointing because that was the reason I stopped at Mi Pueblito. However on the main side you can pay a $3 entrance fee that comes with a free tour. If you take the tour you will learn a lot and the replica village will be more interesting if not you will likely be bored. The tour last about 30mins and after you'll have enough time to grab a cheap fruit drink before hoping back on the next bus.

We stopped in after hiking Ancon Hill. The entrance fee was $3/pp (foreigners). A woman offered to give us a tour but we declined, thinking we could go on our own. How wrong and disappointing. There were several houses/rooms with re-creations of various housing, but there was no signage. We stood in front of the rooms and tried to guess what each one was for and what era it was representing. A small sign in front of each room would have been so much more informative. The women's bathroom had no soap or running water. The only redeeming quality at Mi Pueblito was that we could purchase a fresh coconut with a straw in it for $2. Very refreshing.

While in Panama, our driver suggested we see Mi Pueblito, a small replicated village of a few cultures in Panama. It was an overcast day, with occasional rainshowers, so we thought it would be a nice place to visit. We really enjoyed it! There is a nice spanish area, a black area and an indian area. Our driver explained it all to us. We especially enjoyed the Indian area. We bought a few souveniers at the Indian building, at very reasonable prices. It doesn't take long to go through this attraction but it is a good learning experience. they also had a store to buy snacks and very good non alcoholic drinks.

A great little representation of different cultures in Panama.

The shops are not always fully occupied, but this is another very worthwhile visit and easy to get to and find.

This site is a collection of housing and artifact replicas of the various cultures (old and modern) of Panama. While simple, it gives you a good idea that this relatively small country is formed by various ethnicities and and traditions that survive to this date.
The entry fee for foreigners is $3 USD and you get a free guide (optional). Depending on how much time you have, this can be good or bad; our guide was very passionate about his national history and customs, so he spent a lot of time telling us about everything - more than what we could absorb.
The collection of "polleras" (traditional dress) is beautiful. It takes more than one person and several months to make one. They can cost in the thousands of dollars!
If you only want an overview of the contents, plan on an hour an a half - there is some walking involved. If you want to really immerse yourself in each of the exhibits, plan on, at least, half a day.
