Owner description: An eclectic personal art collection that may or may not contain fakes of the old masters.

Was on a short trip in Zagreb and wanted to visit a museum. I was highly impressed by the collection: from Asian treasures to medieval pieces to European furniture to a very wide collection of paintings including highlights from Velasquez, Manet, Delacroix, Rembrandt etc.
The free guide on your smart phone provides great and deep information and I wish more (international) museums would have such profound information systems.

From the outside building looks really impressive. Inside you can see different permanent exhibits (ancient Rome and Greece, oil paintings, old clocks, things made of ivory...) I was lucky while temporary exhibition of 60's was on, so it was really cool.

Favorite museum in Zagreb and Croatia. Of the total of 3,700 varied works of art, more than 1,500 exhibits constitute permanent holdings, dating from the prehistoric period up to the 20th century. Big collection of Ancient Greece, Rome, Egypt and beyond. Very nice collection of Asia cultures especially Japan and China. You can also find good art on last floor, paintings by the English, German, Italian and French masters. Some of the most famous exhibits include works by Lorenzetti, Giorgione, Veronese, Canaletto, Van Goyen, Ruisdael, Bosch, Rubens, Holbein, Lieberman, Turner, Delacroix and many more...
P.S. Don't forget to check a nice store in museum they have nice things from souvenirs and books to figures and paintings.

From the outside, this neoclassical building (former secondary school) looks impressive. The staff manning the ticket counter was friendly and enthusiastic in telling me about the special exhibition at the basement. The collection is rather eclectic, but not very impressive to me. The small special exhibition was about theatre costumes. There were very few visitors.
If there are special exhibitions of interest or concerts, I might visit again next time in Zagreb.

The Mimara Museum is located near the city centre and it is a beautiful building. It is a private collection with some great art works but majority of the collection are just average.
