Worth a few hours to climb up by car or bus and see the great view of the city.
Roads are plowed on daily basis(not usual in bulgaria)

I have been hiking and night skiing on Vitosha.
Both a very nice, when you night ski you have a really nice view of the city.

Not as good as Bansko but still a short distance from city center. Weather was not that good but still a great location for a day trip

Alot of poor info about this place. Not much to do up at the top unless you are going skiing. Remember to remain seated in the lift untill you are at the last stop. There are two other stops uphill. And the doors open automatic.
I recommend to search for vitosha ski own website online.
There you'll find info about weather, prices etc..
In winter the cablecar from Simenovo is open every day, in summer it is open only in the weekends.
If you are on a budget, the cheapest way to get to Simenovo from the city center of Sofia,is to take the metro to The Business Park, from there you can take a free bus to the Sofia Ring Mall. From the Mall it is only a 5-10 min walk up to where the cablecar starts. It is only one road going up the mountain from the Mall, walk by the parkinglot and you'll see a big grey buildning marked with Vitoshaski.
Took a taxi to Simenovo Lift, then the bus and metro back to city center. Total only 12-13 levas.
There is still alot of snow on the top, recommend to wear waterproof hiking shoes.

We were on a day-trip, and the mountain is charming both below the tree line and in the alpine area. There is unbeleivable good view to the city from Kamen dyal peak. Boyana waterfall is small, hidden in the rocks, you cannot expect great view there, still interesting to see. There were some places to eat and drink. Take sun-protection with you!
