It is magnificent, beautiful and great place to visit. Very peaceful too. Easy to reach if you are in Sofia.

The building is certainly very impressive from the outside. Once you step inside its quite dark and there is a big sign saying no photography. The outside is more impressive

If you have time to see only one thing in Sofia - this is it. If you are very lucky there will be choir singing to give you full experience. I just sat in inside for about 1 hour listening, examining and relaxing.
Build in 1912 The cathedral was created in honor to the Russian soldiers who died during the Russo-Turkish War of 1877-1878, as a result of which Bulgaria was liberated from Ottoman rule.

The size and complexity of the structure is amazing. For a phenomenal and unusual photo op get a drink at the rooftop bar at the Sense Hotel on Tsar Osvoboditel Ave. at sunset and shoot. The golden domes through treetops are mystical.

I am Bulgarian, yet I've never seen this Cathedral before, but since I have a foreign friend as a guest, she had googled Sofia and saw the Cathedral and wanted to visit. When we entered, there was a priest singing and the ambiance was magical. We listened to him for a bit and lighted a candle. The one single thing I didn't like was the group of German/Austrian tourists, whose guide was explaining something to them in the middle of the Cathedral, which can be really unnerving for people who went there to pray.
