Why acclimate anywhere else? I get really bad altitude sickness and needed a nice place to relax and just be prior to our big salkantay pass hike to Machu Picchu. El Mercado hit the spot. This cute boutique hotel had everything I could need and more. Live music every night, a cozy courtyard with alpaca blankets to snuggle in fire side, delicious food in the restaurant, 24/7 access to hot tea and coffee, comfortable beds and incredible customer service. It is pricey by Peruvian standards and there are many cheaper options in town but it was worth it for me. Felt refreshed and ready to conquer salkantay pass and explore Machu picchu at the end of our stay. We even returned here after our expedition for some good recovery time.

Great stay at El Mercado and its la Taberna restaurant. Interesting decor in the rooms and public areas. Breakfast included made-to-order juices. Happy hour has live jazz and reasonable prices. Hotel is easy walking distance to Cusco's central sites. Highly recommend!

Walkable to the main square and all the good restaurants. The rooms are a good size, clean and comfortable. The staff is very attentive and very use to all the hikers coming and going. They will store your suitcase at the hotel for your return. There is a security guard at the door 24/7. The center of the hotel has a courtyard that offers wonderful street food cooked on a grill from 5-7(chicken kebabs & Peruvian donuts). Along with happy hour--- live music and fantastic pisco sours. A fire pit with tables and chairs surrounding it and blankets if it is chilly out. A wonderful breakfast buffet is offered on the lower level. They even have laundry service. $15 per large bag! A lifesaver so when we got home we didn't have a ton of dirty clothes from the trek!
***Wouldn't hesitate to stay here again. Great accommodations!

Having trekked with Mountain Lodges of Peru 4 years ago, I was curious to see what their hotel, El Mercado, was like. While I didn't stay at the hotel, a friend and I decided to check it out and have a drink at the bar. We arrived during happy hour and the prices were excellent.

The hotel surrounds a courtyard which is where we sat on a chilly evening. There were a couple of musicians playing acoustic guitar and drum. The music was great, the ambiance relaxed and elegant.

There is a fire pit in the center of the courtyard which provided some warmth as well as an adequate supply of warm blankets to wrap yourself in while enjoying your cocktails.

The hotel is a few blocks off the main Plaza de Armas and worth checking out for a respite from the busyness of downtown Cusco.

We stayed here for 6 nights in two different rooms, due to our stay over in Aguas Calientes for one night after our hike to Machu Picchu. The rooms were both great, cozy, nice and clean. Wifi worked fine every day. The breakfast was great too, with a great selection of fruit juices. I would also recommend the hot chocolate, yummy!
The staff was really friendly, helpful and polite no matter what time it was.
The location was really just a few blocks from the main plaza.
I would defenately recommend this hotel for your stay in Cusco.

Room tip: 305 was great, bigger than 503
