In one fabulous afternoon we learnt everything we wanted to know about Peruvian cuisine and its history, served up by Chef Jose with generous dashes of charm and humour.

The experience was exceptional and kept us all captivated as we learnt about fruits, grains, Pisco and much more. It included hands on preparation of ceviche and lots of fun cooking lomo saltado juggling a wok full of fire.

And to top all this, we were fed delicious mini appetizers from the restaurant throughout the workshop.

We left Marcelo Batata Culinary Experiences feeling pleasantly full and inspired to enjoy food Peruvian style, mixing unusual textures and tastes. ¡Buen provecho!

Chef Jose takes you on a delightful culinary journey at Marcelo Batata’s. He explains the history of Peruvian cuisine and how best to enjoy it while you enjoy delicious appetizers prepared by the professional chefs. The cooking course includes a tropical fruit tasting, a visit to a simulated market, and hands on instruction on how to prepare Peru’s most famous dishes and cocktails. All of this happens in a fun and low stress environment. If you have the time and enjoy cooking/eating don’t miss this experience.

We had a wonderful experience preparing our South American Andes clay dish, learning the andean culinary history and tasting the exotic fruits of Peru. Our chef Christina was superb and simply wonderful! She had a great knowledge the different aromas, textures of the potatoes, chilies, corn, etc. We really enjoyed her, the class and of course our clay pot dish!

Jose was a gas! I took the class as an add-on to a business trip and didn't know what to expect (never taken a cooking class before). This was a hoot! Lots of great info, and fun, engaging, hands-on cooking instruction. This was funny, upbeat and DELICIOUS! Highly recommend!
